eta. Not sure if this has been mentioned, but what Broome did is actually against the law in some states. That's how bad of an idea this was.

I'm inclined to believe it's the latter. Either that, or Fat Gary is dumber than I thought. Regardless of how this plays out, Broome has begun her term with a bang. She's either very politically savvy and incredibly stupid. If she makes enemies with law enforcement and risks alienating white voters in south BR, she will all but assure her first term as mayor will also be her last.

I grew up in BR, but I haven't lived there in 15 years. Didn't a lot of whites in south BR support Kip Holden? I know he wasn't well-liked by the black community because he didn't pander to them or play the race-baiting game. If white flight to the suburbs accelerates under Broome and/or St. George comes to fruition, it will hurt BR and that's not good for Broome. Who will pay for city maintenance and capital improvement projects? It sure as hell won't be the blacks in north BR.

But Gary Chambers gains status and recognition in the black community and is promoted to a leadership position.
You can't make this stuff up, we have a racist on the police committee and our mayor puts him on it!!!!
Broome can say whatever she wants to say, but when you put these types of people on committees you give them legitimacy, credibility and status. BRPD has a tough enough job without having these types looking over their shoulders.
