So where do you guys think would be the optimal place to put such a bridge?

We also pay the highest sales tax in the country.
And what does that tell you?

LA taxes are higher than TX and TN when taken as a whole
Are you sure? I'll give you the benefit of the doubt right now because neither state has an income tax, but they make up for that missing revenue through the different property taxes and other fees

That's sort of why I was asking. Maybe start around Grosse Tete, cross the river at Brusly? But then how to connect that to I-10/12?
Best and cheapest option would be to upgrade 190 for the northern segment and a new southern segment that meanders with Highway 1 and crosses the river near Plaquemine.

only logical place is Adddis/Plaquemine and make a southern loop connecting with Nicholson

There's more than one way to skin a cat.
Yall seem to not want to do it any way that causes any type of increase.

There should be a regional gas tax and that would be fair. It would be paid typically by the people using the system.
A property tax is bull to pay for a road which a lot of the traffic problems result from vehicles such as cross country truckers that pass through the BR Area.
A regional gas tax would actually be paid by some of the truckers which just pass through the BR area.

They are higher. We are #27 at 8.43%. TX is 8.15% and TN is 6.47%

But in 50's defense, if LA doesn't think in terms of finding out of the box solutions and keeps it all in house, property tax increases (or other on top of your current state taxes) is the only option. Taxation will continue to cripple LA growth.
There aren't many options. Stay gridlocked or keep voting for the same idiots.

Bridge 1 between Plaquemine and Dow in Iberville... connected to I-10 in WBR somewhere between Lobdell and Grosse Tete, and connecting back to I-10 somewhere in Ascension between Highland Rd. Exit and Dutchtown.
Once that's established and tolls are coming in, get some more bonds to continue the west bank freeway and build another new bridge right around Modeste. Continue to I-10 right around the Lamar-Dixon Expo center, and take that all the way to I-12 between Walker and Satsuma.
Then if you really want to get crazy, continue with a full loop heading north from I-12, cross the Amite somewhere around Watson, go across EBR between Baker and Zachary, cross over the MS river again just north of Profit Island, and turn down to the original I-10 tie-in in WBR.

The House and Senate overwhelmingly approved Senate Bill 496—creating a five-parish regional authority that, among other things, will be tasked with finding a way to finance a new bridge—and sent it to Gov. John Bel Edwards’ desk for final approval. The governor is expected to make a decision next week, and the prospects look favorable.
until gov honor code and the other politicians can figure out a place that works best for them and not the public. how is that Audubon bridge working out for you?

Maybe start around Grosse Tete,
Not a bad place to start, maybe a little east of there and loop down to between Addis and Plaquemine and cross the River just below South Bluebonnet and link up with I10 somewhere between Highland and Prairieville.....that is if they were smart and forward thinking....but it would take them 10-12years to "study the damned thing If they wanted to get ambitious they could continue it over to 12 linking up just east of Denham, but that part would be a clusterfrick the likes of which God himself would never envision

I'm not sure. I've never even seen the thing except in online pictures

i don't think you understand the history, and i know 50 definitely doesn't get it, but that's always been the plan. the plan never included property taxes until this CARBD was formed. the previous BR loop had all the same toll and partnership ideas floating around. it was so understood at the time, it even had it's own disinformation campaign--"it's funded by the saudis and the terrorists!" "the jews are gonna own our roads, not us!".
the point is that property taxes were NEVER in the mix, until this, and BR is already 10x higher than the LA average for property taxes as it is. that's why you're seeing push back.

Looking at the numbers, the bridge over I10 receives on average 180,000 crossings daily. If I had to guess - if the bridge and bridge only were to be tolled and not subsequent miles - the toll would be set around $1.60+ per crossing initially. They'll annualize that figure and sell it as improvement for future projects over a decade. By year 2+, it will increase to $2.20 or more as it becomes normalized and people want more of their share around SLa. Within 5 years, you should be allowed to paint your name on it as part owners.

Yep which is why I said i'd vote against a new property tax. I already pay for schools that I refuse to send my daughter to.

but these numbers are NO WHERE CLOSE to being accurate for Baton Rouge property taxes

Can you find me a stat on Baton Rouge property taxes and then come back?
EBR taxes will be higher than that average but still low because the idiotic homestead exemption exempts the shite-shacks in NBR from most taxes. Meanwhile people with decent or better homes are paying absurd amounts to make up the difference.
