you might get some suckers in EBR to vote yes for property taxes to pay for it (probably mostly from people who either pay very little or no property taxes as is), but the people outside of EBR in the other 4 parishes in the CARBD see BR traffic as exclusively BR's problem. they will absolutely not vote to raise their own property taxes for this. IMO, it will need to be tolled.
if you get a new bridge, you need roads connecting it...this is a rehashing of the BR loop, which the parishes surrounding EBR also vehemently protested.
convincing people of the need for a new bridge is pretty easy, but then getting them to agree on the where the road goes to that new bridge was already proven to basically be impossible with the BR loop fiasco. good luck to the CARBD.

Bless your heart for believing this.

Sorry that passes through Big Bob's backyard.
I know you're joking, buy the proposed hwy 75 path would lead to the gravel road in front of my home being paved and covered with 4 lanes.
Should that happen, I will become a domestic terrorist.

The parcel fee (not subject to homestead exemption) would be the max $500.
A property tax wouldn't have a maximum.
And I would find it really REALLY hard to vote for any new property taxes.
Even if property taxes went up 1000, but you brought in companies that paid you 5000 more a year, you would still net a positive in your bank account and travel experience.
I don't get the train of thought here. Texas has high property taxes but I can get from friggin Addison to Custer Rd in McKinney in 15 minutes because of the DNT/SRT expansion.

I understand they aren't 100% parallels, but it's silly to think you can never "own" something because it's taxed.
And if there's going to be a tax, at least make it have to go toward a project that actually affects property value.

I guess you're lucky enough not to see property tax dollars wasted constantly.
Gas tax and tolls... that's what needs to happen here.

aying you can never own something because there is a tax on it is silly to me
quote:no it is not. electricity is a usable product. Like fuel. some people use more than others.
hats like paying for electricity on an electronic you own.
You can buy land and you can do absolutely nothing with it yet you still have to pay a tax on it.... So essentially you pay for the right to rent it from the government for the whole time you "own" it.
He has a point that you never really own land with property taxes, which he has a point. It is rather bullshite.

I’d pony up for a slight property tax and a toll.. the most important factor as always is where.. Someone needs to step up and say this needs to go “here” and we all need to get behind it.. at this point, anywhere is better than continuing our current path

This is like cutting off your nose to spite your face. You want BR to grow but don't want to do what it takes. BR needs a combo of funds and it all can't come from a Toll. The maximum charge is $500, yet better infrastructure can bring you jobs that pay thousands more. Yall have no nuts.
Property taxes are not the way to go on a project that will benefit so many people who wont be contributing. Property taxes are great for schools, prisons and libraries. Bridge tolls are a perfect way to fund this. Let the people who use it pay for it.

Toll bypass.
Double deck starting between Millerville and Sherwood on 12 and between Pecue and Highland on 10. Ends between Lobdell and Gross Tete on 10 on the West side.
No exit/entrance EXCEPT for I-110

If they’re smart, they’ll find a way to divert commercial traffic to the proposed new bridge, repave the current interstates, and widen I-10 from the current bridge if they want this city to have an actual future. Not sure if that’s possible, but it would save the roads and ease up on the outrageous congestion that plagues this city all live long day.

15 years to study.
Toll AND property taxes to pay for it.
Will be built right next to the New Roads Bridge.
Will not connect to a loop.

You'll all be out of college and have kids in 10th grade before this will be complete. Well, that and you'll live in Texas so it won't matter much.
Posted on 5/21/18 at 11:19 am to fallguy_1978
We’re gonna need a 10-year study on this and I’ll get back to you.

Agreed. Much of the BR traffic isn't even local. Let's get the truckers and through traffic to pay for some of this. It shouldn't be just on EBRP property owners

It's a Louisiana thing......I want something that would benefit me and be a net plus, but I sure as hell won't pay for it.....not one dime.......I already pay to much in damned taxes.....where the frick is my refund check ? I can't stand the traffic in Baton Rouge, but I don't want to pay to fix it and the new expressway would create more traffic.......maybe we should study it more. Not in my backyard....but muh quality of life. The Louisiana economy sucks, but don't frick with the tax code , unless you are going to increase sales taxes which are basically optional taxes.
Did I sum up the average Louisianian mindset
Oh yeah.....It'll never happen and it wouldn't work anyway.
No wonder places like the MetroPlex and Houston pass us like we are standing still.

People on this board love to talk about how great Texas is.
This is exactly how it's done in Texas... regional authorities, tolls, and sometimes local contributions.
