You would think BR had better Indian restaurants than nola does because of this.

They have better Thai food, better Lebanese Food, but for some reason, not better Chinese or Indian. Japanese seems like a push, imo.

Doesn't really seem to refute anything though

Wasn't trying to.

Just pointing out that the H1B visa in the OP is for Deloitte Consulting LLP, so those people aren't based on Poydras street. They are probably based in Houston, Dallas, or one of their service centers and are working for a client in Baton Rouge.

I would guess they are flying in every week or renting an apartment locally just for whatever project they are on.

You have to start somewhere. IBM is a huge multi-national company. There's certainly opportunity to grow from within unless you are not willing to take opportunities in new business units or new locations. There is little long term growth at massive multi-national firms like that for any American employee that is not open to relocation regardless of where they start out. That's true of everything from Google to ExxonMobil.

The problem is it's a "different" segment of IBM, its not the traditional IBM. If you work there, its unlikely for you to transfer to IBM Core. So you're doing the same job as Core for half the price. So American employees aren't handcuffed in staying there like the Visa workers. Huge turnover rate as of late.

That's going to be typical for the IT industry especially until the H1B bullshite is solved.

Sometimes to advance, those IBM workers may have to switch to Accenture, Deloitte, PwC, etc. IBM on a young person's resume definitely opens a lot of doors.

Funny thing is that is 50-100% more than what they are paying the positions they offer to Louisiana residents to work at the IBM BR office. The State of Louisiana got suckered again.

Yep. IBM has been running an H1B scam and doesn't even try to hide it. Their job postings demand insane levels of credentials relative to the pay they're offering (I mean, like 1/3 or 1/4 the market rate in Houston), then pretend that because they don't get enough applicants that there must be a shortage of qualified workers so they HAVE to use H1Bs to fill the vacancies. It's basically immigration fraud.

I have a good bit of friends that tried to get on with IBM, all degreed.

They either didn’t get the job, or the job position was canceled..

But IBM is steadily hiring H-1B folks...........

That is correct. They fly in most weeks but can telecommute as well. The customer provides offices for them to operate out of at the tech park.

I wanna say that there was a news article about IBM in BR getting tax credits, but not doing their part of the deal by hiring people from the area......

2 of my friends are LSU CS grads, and 1 cousin is a ULL CS grad. All turned down by IBM.

2 said F it and moved to Houston, and 1 is working a job outside of his field.

The H1B system is horribly broken.
You want to know where US middle class jobs are going, look there.

I couldn't care less about a wall with Mexico. Those guys are hanging drywall, picking fruit and digging ditches, they're not doing middle class labor.

The H1B guys are taking spots from middle-class American workers and sending that money back overseas, not to the local community.
