Ms Despo(La Fonda's), had a great bean dip, and good basic tacos, flautas,etc..corn meal fried fare.

But, if you wanted Fajitas(especially Chicken), then Casa Garcia was the place to go.

Might have had something to do with Mark Maggio's attitude. God rest his soul, but the guy was a jerk.

Is there still a Fast Track hidden in the gas station by the Sunshine Bridge?

Which side?

Nothing on the Donaldsonville side: a Subway, Sonic and a couple of Poppingos.

Chalet Brandt
IIRC this was lauded in the classic New Orleans Underground Gourmet book. Needless to say neither I nor anyone in my family ever went there. I don't think I even ever drove past it

Where was it? When did it close?

29 cent hamburger stand
I vaguely recall this place, but I don't remember ever eating there.

Apparently I was too poor even for the 29 cent hamburger stand (didn't it eventually go up to 39 cents? That's the price I recall)

Yes, great Schnitzel! I don't remember the name, either, though.

Chinese Bandits, on W. Lee near Brightside. Food was meh but they delivered, which was a nice perk 30 years ago.

There was a cajun restaurant in a portable building (I think) on Brightside back then too. Great boiled crawfish and fried seafood. Wish I could remember the name.
