the fact that all of this is a white and black thing is fricking retarded. Just appoint the best person for the job. The more you keep talking about black and white, the further from equality we'll stay.

Pretty new low for EBR to use a tragedy for political gain. Instead of honoring the mans service, they change it to a chess game. Just adds to the SG argument, IMO.

Buddy Amoroso was a white republican metro council member representing goodwood, parkview, and shenandoah who was killed by a hit and run driver last week while cycling. Because his death was too close to schedule a special election in time for the october elections, a special election cannot be held until March. In the meantime, the council is tasked with voting for a replacement. Buddy’s family has requested a close friend of Buddy’s who lives in the district who is a white republican and also likely to support the St. George movement. Before Buddy’s death, the council stood at 7-5 white republican - black democrat, so whoever fills that seat is the deciding vote as to whether there is a white majority or complete deadlock.
4/5 of the black council persons have decided to abstain from voting on a replacement. That means to install one, the remaining 7 council persons (which includes one black democrat) must vote unanimously in order to approve a replacement OR the governor (a democrat) gets to appoint the replacement.
The black democrats on the council are using Buddy’s death to install a black democrat in a white republican majority district to thwart the St. George movement which is likely to come up for a vote in the metro council before a special election can be held.
This is seriously f$&ked up.
It wouldn’t shock me one bit if Buddy was targeted by that driver and killed on purpose. That’s how much money is at stake here.

Obviously I shouldn't have assumed anyone read Gary's garbage article, but he is called "Armoroso" instead of Amoroso throughout.

Apparently so has Gary Chambers. We’re in the midst of a remake.

Pathetic that this city will never become great
The Metro Council has been a joke for the last 30 years.
It's why BR will never become the kind of city like an Austin or a Charlotte that it really had the potential to be.

Or, you know...somebody to actually represent Amoroso’s district.

These four councilmembers are PATHETIC & DISGUSTING: Chauna Banks, LaMont Cole, Erika Green and Donna Collins-Lewis. Poor taste, insulting and disrespectful to Amoroso and his widow.
Your ignorant statements are another reason for THE GREAT CITY OF ST GEORGE!

The deadline for the St. George movement to turn in their signatures is during that 9 month period, which means that assuming the St. George petition can get enough verified signings, it will come up for a vote before the metro council to place it on a parish wide ballot before March as well. This move would ensure a no better than 50/50 council vote on St. George meaning that even if the petitioners get the required number of signatures, they still won’t get a chance to vote on the initiative at the ballot box. By the time an election can be held, the movement will already be defeated and they’ll have to wait like 3 years to try again.
