Baton Rouge bars, which are currently required to shut down at 2 a.m., could be allowed to stay open until 4 a.m. if a proposed ordinance up for debate at this afternoon’s Metro Council meeting is approved.

Cole and other supporters of the measure argue that extending bar hours until 4 a.m. could theoretically cut down on fights, DUIs and calls for service because bar patrons would not all be leaving at the same time.
BR business report
wish that happened in my party days!!!

I wish Ithaca would have done this during my law school days at Cornell!

Having a mandatory bar closing time at all is government over-reach.

At that point, why force them to close at all?
Just allow them to be open 24/7/365 and leave it to the bar to decide their hours.

I don't know about over-reach but it is a terrible idea to put all the drunks on the road at the same time.

Not everybody works the day shift.

That's the issue with having bars in nothing but scattered strip malls that pretty much nobody can get to without an automobile.

4 am was time to seal the deal. Who wants to wait til 4 a.m. to pick up strange?

My mind boggles at staying out past 1030 now.

1)I think a business should have the sole choice of choosing their hours
2)Assuming the 1st condition is not met, I do not believe a bar that caters to college age kids should be open that late. Adults make their own choices, but staying out until 4 seems like a lot of failing students.

The logic here is flawed. If the bar stays open until 4am the college kids will just party for 2 hours more and then your in the same boat with 2 more hours of drinking under their belts. Or at least that's what I would have done if bars stayed open until 4 back in the day.

That's way past my bedtime now

Why don't they have mandatory closing times for other businesses? Why can Waffle House stay open 24 hours but not a bar?

It may cut down on the binge drinking as well. People will have more time to drink so they wouldn't be pounding fireball at 11 PM so they could make it to the bar with a few hours left to drink.

Wait until Cats starts running from campus onto Plank. The annual South to North barhop will be huge.
