Serious question- which do you think is more expensive -while the death penalty or life in prison?

The death penalty is. But only because of the red tape and bureaucracy and constant legal battles and pussies who try to dictate decisions based on emotion instead of logic.

If it were streamlined and wouldn't take 20 years to carry out, a 9mm round is FAR cheaper than housing a prisoner for the rest of their life.

So you think it's logical to continue the death penalty that kills innocent people albeit occasionally while costing more money - rather than simply putting them in prison for life?

Further your goal for streamlining the process is for legalising summary execution?

You're not Russian or of Soviet heritage are you? Stalin would love you.

Compensation doesn't bring the innocent back to life or comfort the grieving families of those wrongfully executed.

You're right. It doesn't. But what it does do, is grant the family upwards mobility they never would have had. And I'd even argue the family is better off post wrongful death than had the innocent been alive still. As they would be getting more money (more often than not) via the settlement than if the wrongfully killed were still alive.

I mean let's face it. The majority of those wrongfully convicted and facing the death penalty aren't exactly upstanding people. They're most likely the dregs of society. So the monetary compensation could fund their children's schooling, buy a new house in a better area, so many positive possibilities.

Will it bring the dead back? No... But it sure as hell can benefit them in other ways in the long term.

You should run for office using this slogan for your crime prevention plan. You'd lose horribly, but you would be the most honest man running.

I pray that you never have to see the other side of this issue. Nobody should.

Not picking a side between you two but your quote largely illustrates what he is trying to say. That the system IS broken, it can be corrupt, self-serving and also emotional in terms of the prosecution's personal/political motive who can and will always get some cases wrong based on said emotion.

I'm for a much more streamlined death penalty. One that would cut cost dramatically. Cut out the red tape. Cut out the bureaucracy.

The only reason it cost more is because it takes so long to carry out. Period.

And do you know why there's red tape and bureaucracy? Because the courts are mandated to accept appeals in death penalty cases. By streamlining you're just upping the error rate in wrongful executions. Your solution would increase the number of innocents executed to save a few bucks. How is that logical?

Explain us your logic for why killing innocent people is ok.

Money.

If you kill 1000 prisoners in a year. And one is innocent.

You saved the country 30 million dollars. You then take that 30 million, and you pay out the 1 persons family.

Congratulations. You just saved a shite ton of money.

You should get one appeal. That's it.

And still saving money via all the correct executions.

You're also increasing the number of correct executions. Thus lowering the prison population. Thus saving money.

I'm against life in prison. It's a massive waste of money. Kill them and be done with it.

The execution should be gruesome and painful for these animals

While this may be true, there are many cases where people have been executed who were later exonerated. One execution of a person innocent of the crime is one too many.

I'll give you two points for honesty, at least.

Here's my question- what happens in cases where there's legal malpractice or a false conviction- I.e. the prosecutor knew the defendant was innocent and still convicted him to the chair.

How do you square that with your proposal? Or do you pat the DA on the back for saving everyone money?

Hanging is the most effective and humane way of execution.

Why we stopped doing that I don't know

So drug dealers, bank launderers, non violent felons spending their lives in prison... Send them to the chair?

Handcuff him. Put him in an arena. Fill the arena with those currently on death row. Get on loud speaker. Tell the prisoners what he did. Then give them free reign to do as they please.

You willingly sentence someone you know is innocent to death, you deserve even worse than what you dished out.

I'm even more against life in prison for nonviolent offenders. Put them in a work program/rehab.

No justice is served sending nonviolent offenders to jail.

That's not what happens now. At most they might get disbarred. Most of the time these sorts of cases gets them re-elected and everyone buys it up as if it's a good thing. They put it on their resume because everyone thinks there's no way this guy was innocent.

No. But it really should be what happens now. I'm not going to bullshite you. These folk who do this shite are the lowest of the low and deserve to be tortured by those they knowingly convict.

You sound like a liberal cuck

Edit: you too NYNolaGuy

I'd love to see you spew this stupid dialogue if one of these guys killed your mother, sister or child. If there's even a .0000009% chance they were innocent then let them live right? Yeah ok.

At least we agree on that.

The problem though, is that if you think about it, the innocents would have no opportunity to recourse with whoever prosecuted- because they'd be dead shortly after trial.

Which is kind of my whole point with all of this.
