Why should we feel bad about paying less for gas?

The reason I feel bad is because now it appears the government is going to tax me for more than I am saving on gas.

they'll stop going to the dr unless it's an emergency without insurance

and then won't be able to pay the bill anyway because they got laid off from the oil field

I know directional drillers are in the $200K range. Do seasoned Dr's make less than that?

But the cost of oil went down after the credit crunch. Gas prices were at historic highs summer of 2008

also in LA, Haynesville was booming in 08/09, so work was plentiful in LA during the time

My state is getting crushed by low oil prices. They had 40 years to develop alternative revenue streams and failed.

Nothing lasts forever. You plan for that or get burned.

GPs
Internist
Pediatricians

all average less than 200k

and 200k is the low end for directional drillers

And yet some of you idiots love to laugh at "low gas prices". You don't see the other side of the coin. This isn't just affecting the top but real people are losing their jobs and livelihood.

True, but lower gas prices also allow some families more opportunity.

It goes both ways.
it's as if this board forgets there are people and businesses outside of LA and TX.

Someone else mentioned this earlier in the thread and I think it's a very valid point, what percentage of the people who have been laid off would have even had an o&g job if gas wasn't $4 and a barrel wasn't $130? Honestly, I can't feel to bad for those people. Same with unskilled motion picture people making $75k because of the ridiculous tax credits. They shouldn't have had those jobs in the first place.

PCPs will take some hit, but they will still flock to the ED for primary care as many do now.

Lol....Just because we are in a "historic" downturn in the O&G industry doesn't mean it is over, chief.

my brother was laid off last year and went 9 months without insurance, Obama's fine was $60 a month when he filed his taxes.......insurance would have been $500 a month

Exactly. Take a look at North Carolina as a comparison. They realized that being a tobacco state wouldn't last forever. So they created Research Triangle and placed a lot of emphasis on attracting other business to the state. This started in the 1960s. It takes leadership and foresight. Politicians today have none of those traits.

No shite Sherlock, any 3rd grader would know that.

I think we do but you may not. This creates jobs in other areas of the economy that wouldn't be there if gas was over $4 a gallon. Lower oil prices are what I benefit from most in this situation so I am happy for them although I do feel for struggling families.
