And Perrette came in 3rd with less than 20% of the vote, so you know there was some kind of issue, aside from crime. You don't see incumbents running for a 3rd term getting less than 20% of the vote usually.

The incumbent sounds like a complete idiot

According to a video recording of that city council meeting, taken by David Miller of Mt. Hermon Web TV, Perrette stated she would have been happy answering a set list of questions, but had concerns if the audience was able to ask random questions.
“I will not participate in a debate whenever individuals have kicked at me in my teeth, in my face, on Facebook, and it’s very easy to see,” she said. “I don’t have to go see it (online), but other people screenshot it and happily send it to me. I have no problem with a debate, at all, if it can stay on the questions that’s being asked, that you’ve given and provided. But as soon as it turns into a free-for-all, I will not be involved. You can play by yourself. “I’m not going to participate in no foolishness. I’m too old — I’m 47 years old, and I’m not going to put up with it.”
Miller said that the event was canceled because the CAO interpreted Perrette’s comments as stating she would not attend.
“We canceled that thing because she said she was tired of people bashing her on Facebook,” Miller said. “I told her, ‘Wendy, people bash Jesus Christ on Facebook.’”

Perrette wished Truong well in her concession statement, but also said, “Young Tyrin has demonstrated repeatedly during this campaign that he lacks the skills necessary to lead and unite our city.”
Stats don't lie, was she projecting in this statement...

I wish the guy all of the luck in the world to turn Bogalusa around. He’s going to need it.

Bogalusa is full of haters

I hate this kid. I was gonna be mayor if he wouldn’t have thrown his hat in at the last minute

Ranked number 2 in 3-A behind Union Parish. Only loss was to 5 A Slidell. It’s the Best team they have had in a long time.

Cool did not know that.

e’s my negative take. He’s a democratic socialist with a drug dealing dad who funded his campaign.
What's the dad's name? This should be easily verified.

And if you go to a game they announce his name and campaign slogan every five minutes. I’m not sure how much money he contributed to the team or the school but it must’ve been substantial and I guarantee you it hit the mark
Costs me a one time $300 fee and 150 a year. No telling how many times I’ve sponsored a quarter of football. And keep in mind that the announcer is big into local politics. His “voting guide” had Troung as the candidate to vote for. He probably got extra announcements. Wendy paid for the same package, so if you weren’t hearing her name as much then the announcer was over-announcing Truong.
I say none of this as an effort to discredit the kid. I hope he does well. Every black person in town finally aligned behind one candidate, thus his victory. Good luck to him.

Not saying he’s not educated or doesn’t have any good ideas, but to put this in perspective, he went through puberty 8-10 years ago, but now he’s the mayor of Bogalusa???? I don’t care who you are. You’ve not learned jack shite at 23 to be able to know how the real world works, much less how to fix it when it’s broken.
Where are people’s heads, because it’s certainly not in the game of real life. It’s like we all decided to play dangerous games with our future as if we can just hit a button to reset it if we made a mistake, and you may not get the chance to do that, or at the very least, the damage could be so extensive that people just run for the hills away from places like Bogalusa, and now what do you have but a far far worse problem than you can even imagine, one in which makes your life incredibly miserable.

I read this yesterday and rented the movie.
I hope the kid does well. I like that he wants to focus on community policing.
Frankly towns like Bogalusa are lucky if anyone wants to take political positions. Unfortunately in such cities the people attracted to elected office are usually lazy and looking for some kind of deal for themselves.

Last time I saw an incumbent do that badly was Dave Peralta when he ran for re-election as St. Bernard Parish President.
He was under indictment for sexual battery of his wife / ex-wife, who also was a parish employee, and he was also accused of stalking her and telling her he would send out nude pics of her if she left him and would have her fired.
He also had a rape dungeon in his house.
He came in 5th place in the primary with 3% of the vote.

If the kid does absolutely nothing for 4 years, Bogalusa will be better off.
Hope thought he has some good ideas. My guess is he's going to run into a whole lot of "this is the way we do it around here, we aren't going to change" issues.

We could say this about plenty of elections. If the guy can use what he’s learned in college and as a legislative aide it could be a good experiment. I’m afraid the 70 year old race baiters that have wanted a black mayor force his hand with their nonsense he’s gonna have a hard time. Throw in the slum lords with their typical shite and it can prove frustrating for him. Those two groups have plagued and dictated action in town for years. I’ve lived here for over 40 years. I hope the guy can develop a plan with the limited budget he has and produce some positive results.

Rebrand as New Waldheim or maybe Abita Springs+.
Maybe run water tests and sue the ever loving crap out of the paper company whether they caused it or not.
Just spitballing’ here.

She actually solved numerous budget problems the last 8 years. Imagine subjecting yourself to a free-for-all debate where the moderator was going to be an extreme racist whose spent the last 8 years degrading her in every medium possible. To her face, in council meetings, Facebook, opinion articles in the paper. They did debate, she just didn’t participate in that debate. Imagine being put in a circle of Bogalusa’s finest, and they’re at liberty to ask and say whatever they want. Talk about chaos.
