Earlier this week, Ahmed Jazzar, Boeing's Saudi president, told Bloomberg that Saudi Arabian Airlines, the state-run carrier, would be a great fit for the plane.
"We like how it's shaping up," Kevin McAllister, head of Boeing Commercial planes, said of the midmarket jet over the weekend. "We're just down to a spot where we want to put some structure around getting the right business plan."
Boeing has been secretive about the jet, though a few details have emerged. Earlier this year, CEO Dennis Muilenburg confirmed that the new plane could seat roughly 250 passengers and have a range of 5,000 nautical miles.
The company also announced an order for four 777 freighters from Ethiopian Airlines in a deal valued at over $1.3 billion at list prices. Two of the planes were a commitment announced in June. The aircraft will be delivered in 2018 and 2019.
Boeing is dominating the Dubai show so far, after Dubai's Emirates airline announced a surprise 787 Dreamliner order. Analysts had widely expected Emirates to order more Airbus A380s.
Boeing's new MoM (middle of market) jet will compete with the Airbus A321 on the smaller end, and the Airbus A330 on the larger end. It will slot between the 737 and 787 in Boeing's lineup, taking place of the 757 and 767.
In their infinite wisdom, they decided that a new wide body was more ideal than bringing back the 757. United Airlines is supposedly influencing the design a lot.

Emirates was by far the biggest A380 customer and they have implied they are done ordering them.

I don't think the A380 airframe will be in production much longer unless they develop a cargo version.

Wide body is definitely more efficient when it comes clubbing passengers and dragging them off the plane.

They definitely need a replacement for the 757 with all the 757/767 retirements about to happen, hopefully this is it

Welp....the 757 is a freaking Lexus in the skies, despite its age. One of my all time favs.

Hopefully they do it right and not ship out more than half the production overseas like they did with the 787. shite ended up costing them like $22 billion more than it was supposed to cause of all the problems it had.

That was part of it. They shipped 70% of production overseas to multiple factories in china and the when they went to piece the planes together a bunch of the parts didn't fit together like they were supposed to. They also used different/cheaper material then they were supposed to that couldn't handle the heat coming from the battery which caused a bunch of the planes to catch fire. They fricked up big time with the 787.

I remember talking with a guy who was an attorney for Boeing and asked him why they subbed out some of their manufacturing to China. He said a lot of the in house counsel were stunned by that decision as well.

Yea they apparently did it try and cut cost from $10 billion to $6 billion but clearly didn't work out for the caused it ended up costing them $32 billion and stuck with a fleet of shitty airplanes.

Lots of Asian carriers want their Boeing aircraft built in country. More jobs and lowers costs. But yes, shitier airplanes.
