No it was going through the initial certification phase with the FAA. It is not uncommon for catastrophic failures and when they are that close to the maximums the FAA will allow the RE-engineering to be done with physics and engineering as proof rather than rebuild and destroy another one.
This is the Times piling in what is a non-issue.
When we were working through 135 certifications for our plane designs the stress tests always destroyed the prototypes. The key is how close to the “redline” are you before they are destroyed.

I wonder if that KC46A Pegasus based on the 767 might ever face those kind of stresses. You know, maybe while dodging Air to Air missiles or MiG's or something of that nature.
Hahaha. Nope.

Are you still in the industry? I remember you saying you were on the VisionAire team.

Is a good quality duct tape generally part of a standard repair kit?

Absolutely, along with a big hammer and vise grips!

Sorry but Boeing IS responsible. There have been issues with the plane from almost Day One, and they are STILL having issues with it.
Airbus was going to assemble their KC45 in Mobile, Al, they had a proven tanker design based on the A330 and won the contract, but Obama frickery interfered. LINK LINK LINK
Those links are just some of the recent issues...they might eventually iron things out but so far the KC46A is a KCPOS
By the way, Airbus built that facility in Mobile and if Boeing can't get their act together, the USAF can still buy the KC45, which was a better plane to begin with.

If those stresses occurred in a real life situation you are likely about to die anyway.
True, but you can't achieve those loads in real world flying. They are stressed to failure.

It was a test. They are supposed to find the weak points and fix it.
They apply enough stress to break the wings.

Are you saying a tanker will never have to face air to air missiles?

A tanker would potentially have to face surface fired or A2A missiles. That is why they have both passive and active ASE systems installed and operational. They are not doing any real maneuvering that is going to push the envelope of the aircraft structural integrity.

They are cool. So are channel locks. Both are useful.
That gorilla tape seems like good stuff.
I like to sharpen knives.

So you are saying a tanker that is under attack just flies straight and level. I seriously doubt that. A fighter they are not, I understand that but they are going to maneuver.

I can’t go any further due to classification, but it’s not putting the airframe at its absolute max

I understand , but if a SAM is coming at you you do what you have to do and hope they built it well.

Had Airbus gotten that contract we would have had a proven design
There are few models more proven than the 767. The issues with the KC-46 have nothing to do with the proven 767 airframe.

The issues with the KC46 are on Boeing there buddy. I posted three links and I could post dozens.
They got the contract and did not have a proven design ready to go is what happened. In a nutshell, they out politicked Airbus and stole the contract, and they have not delivered.
Airbus had a proven design already flying and in service, and had Obama and his cronies stayed out of it the USAF would have had replacement tankers some time ago.

Airbus is a euro company that is subsidized by numerous european governments.
Therefore, they compete unfairly against an unsubsidized american company, which is boeing.
I will say it again...
frick airbus.
