These types of planes are not going to outnumber a SAM. No no dives or 9g banking rolls.

The 767 would do just as well as the Airbus A330. Both proven frames.

frick Boeing. Those tankers would have been assembled right here in MY TOWN. As it is Airbus still built a facility and assembles aircraft right here. IN MY TOWN WITH US WORKERS.

Airbus won that contract fair and square. Then Obama and his cronies stepped in because Washington State's Democrat delegation started whining they voided the award and then fricked with the specs so Boeing was guaranteed to get it.

Skullfrick Boeing, Obama and Patty Murray

It's just that Airbus had a proven tanker already flying based on their plane and Boeing did not.

Boeing still doesn't.

Selfish? Airbus had a proven design, their tanker was already flying and the USAF would have had replacement tankers YEARS before Boeing could deliver them.

Butthurt? Hell yes. Airbus had the contract and the crooked Democrats stole it, and jobs away from my hometown. Who wouldn't be?

We had a better plane, proven, and deliverable much sooner, and Hussein stole it.

Regardless of all this, The A330 was a better platform for the job.

The issues with the KC46 are on Boeing there buddy. I posted three links and I could post dozens.

.

Yes but the issues are not due to the airframe of the 767. There problems are nuts and bolts left in the frames and issues with the refueling system which was also being done by Boeing.

They got the contract and did not have a proven design ready to go is what happened. In a nutshell, they out politicked Airbus and stole the contract, and they have not delivered.

There was not a proven system from AB either. Northtrop was designing the new refueling system and was going to mount it on the AB A330. There was not a proven system that met the contract requirements of the Air Force.

Airbus had a proven design already flying and in service, and had Obama and his cronies stayed out of it the USAF would have had replacement tankers some time ago

Airbus has a refueling plane just as Boeing did but it was not something that the Air Force wanted.

The Air Force originally ordered the Airbus over the Boeing platform.

bullshite. Airbus won the contract and the whining started from Washington DC and State. Remember I was there bud. Sen. Patty Murray cried like a baby and the Obama Administration stepped in .

The Air Force wanted the KC45..but Obama wanted to give the contract to Washington State, a blue state, over Alabama, a red state. Which is what happened.

It can carry more gas. That seems like the most important thing with an aerial refueler.

I worked in the largest university aviation test lab in the country in college. Testing these structures to failure, outside of what the natural environment can produce, is a very common occurrence.

because the test failed so explosively at just 1% shy of meeting federal requirements, it will almost certainly not have to do a retest.

Whether you like it or not, “most trusted” is demonstrably false at this point

Okay. Demonstrate that.

We'll wait. Glaciers will come and go and you still won't have demonstrated it. Still, we'll wait.

They originally awarded the contract for 100+ aircraft systems that had yet never been built. Airbus was to supply the A330 tankers and Northrop was going to design and build the new refueling systems.

While the A330 was a proven airframe just as the Boeing 767. What was not proven wasn't Northrop would have been able to build the refueling system without similar delays and issues now being seen with Boeing.

Almost every military aircaft design runs into issues and delays. This is mainly due to the cutting edge technology requirements.

I am certain that capacity was not even a top 3 concern between the two aircraft.

Fuel burn rates.

Pilot training. Military already has 767 pilots.

Aircraft maintenance and parts stock. Already has 767s.

As a passenger plane the A330 has a width advantage which allows 8 abreast seating due to its slightly wider frame but a tanker does not need the extra width.

Wrong. the KC 45 was to be based on the A330 MRTT (Multi Role Tanker Transport) whose maiden flight was back in 2007.

You don't know what you're talking about. The design was proven and the KC45 was to be fitted with the same components used by the A330 MRTT. The same refueling boom, same underwing pods and fuselage refueling unit.

It was a bigger aircraft than the KC 46, able to handle more cargo and carry more fuel, just a better aircraft.

KC45 would have been in service TODAY. Where the hell is KC46?
