Someone please tell me what the hell it is with BR and BBQ. The cuisine isn't impossible, why can't someone open one?

Riverside Patties. The rest can get bent.

The BR pizza scene sucks. Rocca pizza is solid but more coal fired brick oven joints are needed. Some Detroit and Chicago style places would be nice too.

I imagine with the amount of food we like to eat in South Louisiana, any serious restaurant owner should probably look in that market.

specialty burger joints. Shake Shack opened in November — and there are two Mooyahs, Curbside, four area locations of Burgersmith, two Smalls Sliders, BurgerIM, Smashburger, Atomic Burger, Five Guys
Are these really specialty burger joints? A few are worse than fast food burgers, you just have to walk inside to get it. Is that what we're considering a specialty burger joint now? FFS, they're all basically the same.

I haven't tried LIT pizza. Is it any good?
it’s ok for what it is

Rocca is good (which ironically is the same owners as LIT) - but it’s a Neapolitan style pizza which isn’t for everyone

In today’s current market, it pretty much is. Meat is expensive and it’s incredibly difficult to make truly good barbecue. The closest BBQ restaurants to Baton Rouge that are elite are Gonzo’s Smokehouse in Luling and Restaurant Hickory Hill BBQ in the middle of nowhere near Tyler, Texas. And there are a shite ton of BBQ spots out there.

It’s the hardest type of food to cook properly, there’s the least margin for error, there’s a low profit margin compared to other cuisines, and there are a bunch of wannabe BBQ snobs out there who are more concerned with offering “””prime””” brisket and bragging about which smoking wood they use so they can charge $25/plate than actually making good food.

In short, BR will probably never have a great BBQ restaurant. The snobby food trucks around town are unimpressive for one reason or another and I don’t see any of them opening storefronts anytime soon. Hannah Q is probably the best in town and their food and service both suck

Cheng’s on Essen is pretty good.

As far as burgers, BurgerIM is my go-to.

There’s a shake shack walking distance from my office building. I’ve had it a few times and it’s really nothing special.. it’s quite expensive for what it is.

It would be nice to have a good sit down pizza place with wings, calzones and beer with a lot of TVs.

I wish Walk Ons had good pizza and real wings.

Fat Boys Pizza could be this type of place. Their bar food is pretty good. Just need more space and a bigger bar

Red Zepplin is decent enough for me.

Rotolos is hit or miss depending on location.

Rotolo's Craft and Crust fits the bill but there is never anyone in there. I like Red Zepp too but their plain cheese pizza (my kids get it) is hard to eat. It's dry and tasteless. I hate that Portnoy had to have that as his BR pizza.

Gonzo's is terrible. No one should ever try it and stay as far away from Luling as possible. Trust me on this.

They describe themselves as "chef inspired." I guess that means that, rather than hire actual chefs, they just think about them as your food is prepared.

Probably because it's ice cream
