My point is people saying a pool is more expensive are high as a kite

You can sell a boat if you get into a financial bind.
Can't really sell a pool unless your house goes with it.

I've never been a boat owner, but I have a 10yo in ground pool that I hate. Kids were young so of course the thought was they'll use it all the time in Florida. It's screened in, in ground pool.
Chemicals, light fixture replacement, wiring replacement which has now likely short circuited the board, scale in pool, plaster is starting to get soft in one area, screen panels need replaced, deck needs painted....I could go on. I'm waiting for the pump to go out and I'm sure it needs new filter cartridges here shortly.
I'd fill the fricker in if I wouldn't be considered insane.
Don't do it.

i inherited a vinyl pool built in the late 1980s in probably the worst condition imaginable.
i spent $3k for a new liner (installed) and learned how to operate the sand filter, take apart the impeller, put on a new pressure gauge and new pump basket and coming up from ZERO knowledge inside of 6 months have the pool in perfect shape.
aside from the liner, i've spent maybe $400 on chlorox, a good test kit, pool vac and little things like a $5 pressure gauge, $10 brush and $18 pump basket.
next summer should be even cheaper since i've replaced just about all of the old/brittle stuff.
my total cost now is maybe $10-15/wk depending on how much chlorox the pool needs.
pool shops are a scam.

I just searched online for a new steering wheel for my boat. Nothing wrong with current one, just wanted a folding wheel for when we are anchored to have more room in the cockpit.

Insurance and slip fees are ~$5,000/yr for my boat. If you can keep it in your drive, it would be considerable cheaper...

Pool 10 years ago say $28000 total spent since then
Boat $35000 cost 12 years ago
On my 3 rd motor at say $35,000
Second trailer at $2500
So boat cost $77,000 12 years
Not including tires , elecs,batteries
So ...... Boat way more cost
Plus i use pool ... Every day ...

If you are an idiot. I spend no more than $50-$75 on my pool a month and thats during the summer weather. Winter is prob about half of that. I have a salt water, it really does not cost that much unless something goes wrong. Just maintain it and you will be fine.
