Henderson constructed a luxurious fallout shelter at his home in Las Vegas, 26 feet underground. It was built for comfort, fitted with swimming pools, a sauna, a garden with fountains and waterfalls, a mini golf course, and even a barbeque hidden inside an artificial rock. Instead of running for cover when the bomb hit, Henderson figured it would easier and safer to live there at all times.
quote:
The subterranean bomb shelter is a two-bedroom house with a kitchen and bathrooms and additional rooms for guests. The house has a porch that opens into a faux courtyard that surround the house and is planted with fake trees and fake flowers and painted with scenes of hills and snow. To mimic lighting condition at different times of the day, lights are dimmed or brightened. At night stars on the ceiling are turned on.

And where does the smoke from the BBQ go? You know what I am not doing when locked underground in a bunker? Having open fires.

I think they used that as the set for a Twilight Zone episode one time.

That has definitely been used as a swinger party site

I think I know who built this.

HBO just filmed a pilot at that location for their new show VEGAS HIGH. A friend of mine's daughter was cast as the lead. I got to see video of part of the shoot....they filmed a teen pool party down there. It was pretty cool. Kudos to whoever found the site for the shoot.

You know there was gigantic, hairy bush all over that place!

Very familiar with that move.

It really weirds me out. The 1970's color scheme, artificial everything.. The whole package makes me uncomfortable.

It's not as realistic as the courtyard in the Venetian, but its nice.

I always wonder how they expect to get power and water after nuclear apocalypse.

Power isn't a hard one to prepare for with the right equipment and investment. Water, especially in that spot, is a lot harder to ensure.

It is HARD today - RV's have solar panels and still have to run generators which requires fuel and maintenance.
And back then it was a hell of a lot harder. Underground you need lights at least 16 hours a day (NO LED bulbs) to run the frig, sauna, pool, etc. They must have expected to have fuel, water and air available or they had an unbelievable supply with a lot of Sta-Bil.
