And while I've always considered myself a liberal, this is fricking ridiculous. I guess I'm a culture appropriator because I used to play drums with Mardi Gras Indian tribes. I was the only white guy, but apparently I'm stealing their culture, even though they invited me.


I could be completely off base, but I think it could be argued that cultural appropriation has benefited the black community. Nearly every part of American culture has strong roots in black culture. Music, style of dress, talk, etc. While racism isn't non-existent, no generation has ever been more accepting of different races and cultures. There's no doubt I'd rather be black today than 50 years ago. Things aren't perfect, but it's been steadily going in the right direction since black culture became part of American mainstream culture.

Again, I may be completely wrong with this, but it seems on the surface to be the case.
