I hope someone rolls Liam Doyle into a river then gives his lawyer and anyone involved in the lawsuit on his behalf some cement shoes to join him

“I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been invited to Bisbano’s by friends and have had to turn them down because I can’t get in,” Doyle said. “That is the worst feeling in the world. It’s so disheartening. It’s just the worst.”
That's the worst?
So this guy can't have pizza inside and will potentially screw others?
If the owner makes the changes, can't he still refuse service to this guy independent of a disability?

That's why I call bullshite. Who would repeatedly invite the guy to a place they know he can't go?
People who really don't want him around.

Wow. Those of you with all the "FU" comments to the disabled guy better be on your knees thanking God you aren't in this guy's shoes.
It is an unfortunate situation for all involved but I don't see this ending without the pizza guy making the minimal accomodations per ADA or the place being shut down for non-compliance. I'm surprised this issue hasn't come up before now because pizza guy has had almost 25 years to become ADA compliant. It's the price of doing business today. And no, the government shouldn't be paying to do this.

quote:If he's not complying, I doubt that it's because he just doesn't want to. If you've been there, you'd know it's impossible to comply with the restroom requirement without relocating it at great expense. One ramp isn't going to satisfy this, or he would have done it long ago.

I'm pretty sure he's had 25 years of not having to do shite because he was grandfathered in.

This. My family had the oldest restaurant in Slidell. We didn't have to do any of the changes. Running a restaurant is tough and having the money to become ADA compliant probably isn't a priority.

If this were a highly prosperous business or a new business I'd side with the handicapped person. But neither of those seem to apply - the right of a person to be able to earn a living seems to me to be a more fundamental right than the right of the potential plaintiff to eat on site at the business in question.

Why doesn't the wheelchair dude and his friends start a go fund me account for the bathroom and ramp. I bet the citizens will all pitch in and then everyone wins.

He still plays there quite often. If I were in this guy's position, yes, it sucks that I'm in a wheelchair but life is unfair in many different ways. I lost a good bit of my family when I was young and our house burnt down, you just have to deal with it. The Bisbano's whole layout is sloped and just not friendly for someone on wheels. I would never try to bankrupt a place just because I couldn't eat there.

How about he build an entrance ramp and let's drop the lawsuit?

What else do they want besides accessibility? All I've read is for the removal of the step and changes to the bathroom and downstairs. To all those complaining I hope you don't ever have devastating injury that leaves you or your loves one disabled. It will truly show you how hard life can be.

I understand if you're talking about a new business that doesn't want to accommodate handicapped people but this place is decades old. In speaking of Louisiana terms the parking lot is very steep going from one end to the other and getting from the parking lot to the sidewalk in front is twice that bad. You can enter the cellar from outside or inside. To make it accessible inside you would need an elevator, from the outside you would need a large construction project that would take up alot of the patio section. I've been going there for many years and this isn't a chic club that makes a ton of money. They have open mic nights and live acts that were lame 20 years ago. Trust me, this guy just needs to get his pizza elsewhere.

quote:If by that you mean building a new bathroom upstairs at a high cost, then yes, but surely that doesn't fit into the "reasonable" scope mentioned in the law as it applies to grandfathered businesses.
