When I open the door to the deck the bastards somehow know I have the pellet gun. They flee instantly and I can't get a good shot at them

damn, man...you have to put some small amount of effort into this!

bring your morning cup of coffee outside and drink it sitting with your pellet gun across your lap...

After trying grease on the pole, I ran conduit and electric cable underground and rigged up an electric fence transformer with coils of wire made from the copper ground wires used on telephone poles. The hot and ground coils are separated going up the feeder pole. Since then, no squirrel has made it to the bird feeder in over 20 yrs. Sometimes I see a young one try it for the first time. And that's the last time. Amazing how far they can fly after being ZAPPED! Hahaha.

You can't win. They have all the time in the world.
My last attempt was a feeder with pressure bars that close if anything heavy sits on the feeding area.
Was looking out one morning and heard a loud slamming noise and the feeder was swinging.
Took a few times for me to realize what was going on.
Those fricking squirrels were dive bombing the feeder, knocking the seeds out without even getting on the pressure bars.

It depends on who you talk to. But quite a few people tell me the more time I spend on TD the dumber I get.

I hang the feeder on a tall tree branch with wire. Too high above ground to jump up and they can't ride down the wire.

used fishing line and they cut the line. I then used TC wire and they jumped on the feeder from another branch so had to move the feeder and they have been thwarted for now.

We have one "squirrel-proof" feeder and a couple more that the squirrels eat directly out of. The birds throw the seeds out onto the ground for the squirrels anyway. Just put up a couple more feeders and feed the damn squirrels along with the birds. You can't win this one.

Yep. For now.
It may work for you, I've seen them shimmy down wire.

someone just told me about a seed called Hot Meats. It's just the meat of sunflower seeds (no shells) that is infused in chili peppers. Swear the squirrels won't eat it.

This is what I've settled on. Plus if I feed them at the feeders, they're more likely to stay out of my peach and apples trees. I won't shoot them for eating bird seed, but I'll light up some rodents when they get in the fruit trees.

Somehow I can still see the squirrels getting in this.

That's the company. The picture you see there is for their squirrel resistant one. The picture of the squirrel proof one is a bit different.
Who knows!?
