Definently over-diagnosed. Sometimes I just get major cravings and pig out, doesn't everyone?

the thing about food addiction is you have to continue a relationship with it, where as substance abuse you can cast all connections out your life.

You should. Especially the meth addict.

That's called the munchies man. Not B.E.D.

If you're putting a label on it, then I have that. At dinner, I usually eat enough to make myself sick. I eat more than double what my roommate does every night, and he's 1" taller and 60lbs heavier.

It's nothing for me to go through a whole box of hamburger helper, a big can of peas, and 2 pints of milk. I'll eat dessert right after if I have it.

Still 5'11 between 175 and 185, and wear a 33. I haven't been in the gym in probably 12 years

This isn't a disorder or even a symptom of a disorder. It is what eating flour and sugar does to you. To everyone.

Appreciate it

I'm looking into more info. I've spent the last 2 years in this never ending cycle. I've known I needed help but didn't know I had real options out there.

Eating until you're uncomfortably full

I do not have this disorder, but I love being "uncomfortably full" like after a steakhouse dinner with a bunch of wine.

Like "unbutton the pants" and can't move full.

I'm in decent shape and not fat though.

Not the same thing.

Imagine you don't have a craving. You aren't hungry. Maybe you just ate. Maybe you ate a few hours before.

But you get near food, so you start eating it. You tell yourself to eat one or two cookies because "frick yeah, we've got homemade cookies in the house!" Because that's what a normal person may do. But you don't eat two, you eat four and stop because that's too many. Then you remember that there's milk in the fridge, so you get a glass of milk. You eat three more cookies because cookies and milk go together. You realize that eating the entire plate of cookies will piss off your wife, so you stop eating cookies. You still have milk left, so you pour cereal into a bowl and add the rest of the milk. Ohp...didn't have enough milk. Let's top it off with some more. You eat the cereal and realize there's some milk leftover. So you add a little more cereal and finish the bowl. As you put the milk back in the fridge, you reach into the freezer and grab a pint of ice cream. Just because it's there. You eat a spoonful and tell yourself, "Well, I already blew my diet today anyway...." You eat a few more spoonfuls and realize that the ice cream is melting a little on the edges, which makes it a bit more tasty and easier to scoop. So you start scraping the perimeter of the ice cream container until you're dipped down into it. It's noticeable, and you start to wonder about your wife asking you about eating seven cookies and the ice cream. So you eat from the middle of the ice cream to try and hide the fact that you just ate half of the container. You put the ice cream away and grab some dark chocolate from the pantry because it's "healthy" and bitter and whatever, frick it, why not?

That's what binge eating is like. If you do this often, so much so that you wish you could stop and regret it every time, then it might be a disorder.

This is so similar to my behavior, it's scary.

What has your experience been like and what steps have you taken to get help?

It's just a new disorder made up by pharmaceutical companies for purposes of alternatively prescribing stimulants like Vyvanse and Adderall.

It's the Valentine's Day of physical problems.

Holy balls.

Sounds like me on weed and xanax in college when I hadn't eaten anything by Ramen for 3 days then go home with my parents' full pantry.

Good luck with this man.

My experience has been spending years - literally years as in almost a decade now - thinking, "If I just stopped eating sweets and binging on them, I would be ripped!"

It's sad, really. I'm lucky to have a decent metabolism and I'm fortunate to have the time and energy and will power to hit the gym.

I started intermittent fasting about ten days ago, and I haven't gone over my daily calorie limit since. Only thing I worry about is that I'm still binging, but I have the calorie space to do so. Because I'm waiting until lunch to "binge," I'm also able to direct my food choices towards healthier options. So I ate a bunch of pasta, a chicken breast, broccoli, and some dark chocolate to finish. It was 1200 calories. I binged, and I'm full. But it's kept me full enough to last until dinner. Sometimes I eat a banana in between.

EDIT - IF also gives me a goal to think about when I'm trying not to eat. At 8pm, I cut off food. I don't eat anything until noon the next day. It's been really easy avoiding eating anything during the fast.

Or ice cream. I'll go for a tablespoon or two of ice cream after lunch and next thing I know, it's been twenty minutes and I've eaten the entire half gallon.

What's worst about it is that I only do this alone. If my wife is around, I never overeat or binge. But if I'm home alone, I always seem to find the opportunity to eat an exorbitant amount of food

I always thought I just have a sweet tooth.

But I'll buy some cookies that should last me a week or so and eat the entire thing in one sitting. Sometimes just hovered over the kitchen counter. And always alone, never when the gf is over.

I'm not obese either, maybe 15 pounds overweight. I workout a lot, in good shape. I think it can be very real for some people.

This has been me the past 2 years. I have a good/regular diet most days. I track all my calories, and it's clean and well. I try to not cheat a little because I can't control it when I do. I can/have even hit stretches of ten+ days in a row eating clean and in control. Then I tell myself I deserve a reward, I'll start with a few pieces of pizza or something, but the rest of my day is devoted to eating as much as I can. I'll just think about what I'm going to eat next, and go out of my way to get junk food. Then I feel terrible and say I won't do it again, but I'm back in that rut and I inevitably do the same thing a few days or a week later.

Is this just another excuse for fatties?

Yes. It's a fricking joke and a condition invented by a pharmaceutical company so they can sell you the "cure". It's an excuse for a lack of will-power. Nothing more. I doubt there are a people that a just sitting out there who all of a sudden start involuntarily shoveling whole pizzas down their throats. If you are full, stop eating. You have that choice. You may want to eat the whole gallon of ice cream, but you don't HAVE to. It's not as if there is some fricking tractor beam emanating from the freezer dragging you against your will and forcing you to scoop more ice cream after you have put the bucket away.

Remember Carlin's bit on anorexia and bulimia?

quote:

See, somehow, I can't feel sorry for an anorexic, you know? Rich c-u-n-t, don't want to eat? frick her. frick her. Don't eat! I give a shite. Like I'm supposed to be concerned about this. "I DON'T WANNA EAT!" Go frick yourself.

Why don't you lie down in front of a railroad train right after you don't eat? What kind of a God damned disease is that, anyway? "I DON'T WANNA EAT!" How do we come up with this shite in this country? Where do we get our values from?

Bulimia, there's another all-American disease. This has got to be the only country in the world that could ever have come up with bulimia. Got to be the only country where some people are digging in the dumpster for a peach pit, other people eat a nice meal and puke it up intentionally.

Good times...
