Just saw a commercial about this. Is this just another excuse for fatties?

my good friend's wife has this.

she's never weighed over 100lbs in her life because of it.

she's been in rehab twice for it.

Yes. I'm overweight, but I admit it's because I like too much food. It's not a disorder.

I can gross fat people out with how much I eat when I binge, however, I'm not fat. So if fatties are using this as an excuse, frick them.

I think it's real.

It will always be overly diagnosed.

I definitely have these symptoms. I try to eat well, but some days I can't control myself and a slice of pizza turns into a whole pizza, with cookies, and whatever I can get my hands on. I always feel terrible about it and try to never do it again, and then a week later I'm at it.

I'm not obese either, maybe 15 pounds overweight. I workout a lot, in good shape. I think it can be very real for some people.

Nope. I just work out and eat very clean most of the time.

It's most definitely a real thing.

Doesn't mean that it isn't used as an excuse for some people to overeat though.

Will power. I can understand not working out or sticking to a good diet, but how hard is it not to pick up food and put it in your mouth? Seriously, just don't do it.

Me too.

Here's some info from Mayo Clinic:

quote:

Binge-eating disorder is a serious eating disorder in which you frequently consume unusually large amounts of food and feel unable to stop eating.

Almost everyone overeats on occasion, such as having seconds or thirds of a holiday meal. But for some people, excessive overeating that feels out of control and becomes a regular occurrence crosses the line to binge-eating disorder.

quote:

Most people with binge-eating disorder are overweight or obese, but you may be at a normal weight. Behavioral and emotional signs and symptoms of binge-eating disorder include:

Eating unusually large amounts of food in a specific amount of time, such as over a 2-hour period

Feeling that your eating behavior is out of control

Eating even when you're full or not hungry

Eating rapidly during binge episodes

Eating until you're uncomfortably full

Frequently eating alone or in secret

Feeling depressed, disgusted, ashamed, guilty or upset about your eating
Frequently dieting, possibly without weight loss

Unlike a person with bulimia, after a binge, you don't regularly compensate for extra calories eaten by vomiting, using laxatives or exercising excessively. You may even try to diet or eat normal meals. But restricting your diet may simply lead to more binge eating.

The severity of binge-eating disorder is determined by how often episodes of bingeing occur during a week.

I'm about fifteen pounds overweight as well. I hit the gym 4-5 times a week and do cardio 3-4 times a week. Maybe my exercise keeps me from being a fatty.

But I do know that I sometimes will go into the kitchen not hungry at all and consume 1500 calories of random junk. I'll stand over the sink and shovel food into my mouth. Three bowls of cereal, a few cookies, some chocolate, whatever.

Or ice cream. I'll go for a tablespoon or two of ice cream after lunch and next thing I know, it's been twenty minutes and I've eaten the entire half gallon.

What's worst about it is that I only do this alone. If my wife is around, I never overeat or binge. But if I'm home alone, I always seem to find the opportunity to eat an exorbitant amount of food.

Intermittent fasting has helped.

I know. On the surface it seems easy. But as with any true addiction it isn't. This isn't to say that everyone who overeats has B.E.D or food addiction, but some do - myself included I believe.

You wouldn't tell an alcoholic or meth addict how easy it is to just not drink or not pick up a pipe to smoke meth.

its such a viscous cycle. It feels so good to eat carbs, but feel like shite after. Eating is something I look forward to, it makes me happy, then sad.

Excessive caloric consumption does not equate to binge eating.
