They are an embarrassment - even in a state packed full of embarrassments.
Are the beaches in Louisiana any better?

For fishing, yes.

I like to take the ole ball and chain and kids to the Lake Charles Beach after a long 80 work week in the plant.

What are you expecting from the beaches? The water isn't very pretty in Biloxi, so there's not a whole lot more they can do.

Louisiana coastal geomorphology is not conducive to the formation of traditional consolidated shorelines such as most white sandy beaches of the Southeast United States.

The Mississippi River coming into the Gulf near that vicinity just makes them all brown water, now if talking fishing? you can go down the bayou and catch the tarpon rodeo? but as far as scenic, i now live in Houston and eve Galveston is not much better, best advice, head east towards Pensacola, Destin, Ft. Walton, if you want nice beach or take a damn cruise!

A band I was with back in the mid 90s played in Biloxi. One of the other guys and I decided we'd head out to the beach which was suspiciously empty of people for a weekend in July. We left our stuff on a towel and headed out into the water. The water temp had to be 90 degrees and it was about 2 feet deep...and it stayed this way for about 300 yards out. I happened to look back at the beach and saw 2 crows fighting over my hat and another dragging our towels away. That's the moment I realized everything in the state of MS is a disaster. So we walked back, grabbed some lunch, and went to watch old people in the casino.
