If he's so smart how come he didn't cash in on all those predictions?

Dunno about scary. This was an expert in the industry telling us what was in development.

He probably had investments in companies that were working on some of this stuff back then or probably had people in his own company working on or researching some of this stuff. Not to mention some of them weren't big stretches of the imagination at that time.

A person of a certain race was killed by a cop. You'll NEVER GUESS who made a thread about it.

The only person who was making THREAD was your mom because she had to sew her panties back together after our rough and tumble night.

If anyone has cashed in on the future, it would be Bill Gates.

Gates was a shrewd businessman(to phrase it kindly) and a somewhat gifted programmer at a young age. A tech genius he was not.

A quick google search reveals many articles such as this Guardian article, where the Internet revolution caught MS by surprise - hardly impressive as far as predictions go.

Had Gates been born 20 years later, he would struggle to make OT baw status.

Dude, I am not bullshitting, I remember, before 1999, when we first got internet in the house and my dad showing me an article about how the internet would eventually change the way we live. Eventually everyone would be able to do their banking without actually going to banks, shop without having to go to stores, access books without having to carry around a bunch of books. Have the ability to communicate with people from anywhere in the world, in away we can see and talk to each other without actually being in person, etc.

This is lame.

This would have been a lot more impressive in 1989. He was likely not predicting so much as just telling.

Yea. The infrastructure for all of those things were already in place.

To be honest, I don't see any of those as too surprising. Unless you're that idiot writing for Time Magazine saying the internet wouldn't catch on, I don't see any of those as that bizarre of theories at the time. I don't see why if I lived in the late 90s that I would doubt anything he was saying. Late 80s, sure, but I was playing Age of Empires bullshitting with people online about strategies when I was in my early teens. None of that seems bizarre to a younger version of me.

Is this supposed to be a shocking list? It would reflect poorly on Gates if he couldn't predict things like this

None HUGE reaches but I think some of us give too much credit to the tech of 1999.

That's still pretty primitive compared to today's tech. The first color cell phone screen was 2001. We are talking like 2003-2005 that the corner starts turning where the common joe would really be seeing the change to handheld computers instead of Motorola startac flip phones of the late 90s that were innovative solely by being slim design with basic texting
