The problem? The board is populated by bitter know nothings who can't comprehend a person doing something for the good of humanity even though nearly all of them claim to be Christian. That's the problem.
Or people are just making the obvious jokes?

Nigeria is an oil rich country
Gates fell for a scam here
There are people in the government that are personally very wealthy off the oil there I’m sure

You don't understand. It helped Black people.

Also this.

The Gates are very focused on helping minorities. I remember a guy from my high school, had much lower GPA and test scores than several of us, but got $100k scholarship and was a "Gates scholar". Had to be a minority to qualify. My family (and some friends families) saw this in local paper and kept asking why we didn't apply. Were shocked when we said we didn't qualify due to skin color. Not bashing Gates, it's his money, just saying, he knew what he was doing when he helped Nigeria over homeless (white) Americans.

Or people who have been to that shithole and seen how corrupt it is.

His money. And just because some idiot brought up homeless vets doesn’t mean he should donate his own money to them.

Well, I have been to the third world (Africa) and encountered kids who had polio. What he did was a good thing. For the one who mentioned it, the Gates Foundation is fighting Malaria, too.

He can do what he wants. I'm sure he feels like he's doing good things and he is doing some good. I think he could do more good if he focused on some of the true problems in these "underrepresented" communities rather than giving kids who aren't ready for college $100k. But then again no rich white man is going to be able to truly stimulate effective change in minority communities. So he's damned either way. Those communities really need someone like Obama, except who holds them accountable. So maybe like Ben Carson. But then it seems like If you speak reality and don't pander, then you have no respect in those neighborhoods. So again, Gates writes some checks and sleeps better at night and I can't fault him or criticize. It's a no win situation.

I'm genuinely surprised by these responses. Their foundation wants to eradicate Polio. Instead of just giving Nigeria $76MM, they essentially had them do it all themselves with repayment a possibility if they stuck with the program. They did, and now the foundation is paying off the debt. What's the problem here?
Unwarranted prejudice and willful ignorance

I think a lot of folk see this as just another handout to shithole countries who refuse to better themselves, a handout that will just line the pockets of the ruling elite. I’m not saying that’s the case here, but that’s the immediate reflex. Like others have said, Nigeria has oil and should be able to eradicate polio on it’s own without issue, just as every western country has already done.

99% of the time when someone is homeless it's not just a matter of being down on their luck. To get to that point you've gotta have some pretty serious mental issues going on. Just throwing a little money at them isn't going to magically get them on track. Sad but true
probably true in general. but nigeria will be back in debt overnight. can't understand how gates wants to toss that much money out of the country when so much can be done here.

That's not what I said.
Since your reading comprehension is so poor, I stopped right there.

How about they throw some Louisiana's way to baton rouge to help build the loop.. They need some development assistance!

And you said my reading comprehension was bad.
A private citizen does a great thing to help eradicate a terrible disease and you act like he wasted his money because he didn't donate to your cause. That's pathetic. It's not his job to take care of homeless vets.

Said black activists: “While this nice gesture is appreciated, it is but one small step toward remedying a long line of injustices by the white community. Everyone should take note of efforts such as these. But it is not enough. The damage over the years cannot be fixed by throwing a few dollars at the Homeland of those who are currently done injustices to in the US. We need to focus our efforts here, Mr. Gates.”

Very few of you idiots even bothered to read the article. One last time for the stupid. Bill Gates is not giving money to Nigeria. Nigeria got a loan from Japan to help fight polio with the help of the Gates Foundation. Gates made a deal with Nigeria, that if they used that money to eradicate polio, he would pay off the debt. Nigeria held up their end of the bargain and Gates is doing as promised. The money is not going to Nigeria, it's going to Japan to pay off a loan.
Good God! Is it any wonder America is f**ked with people like this in it.
I also find it funny how you're slamming Gates for not solving the homeless problem, since most of you conservative morons couldn't give a damn about said homeless people. I believe you conservatives call them leechers, deadbeats, etc.
