I'm not 100% clear on this, but isn't true that even if the charges are dropped and the people are cleared of any crime, the cops can still keep & sell these people's bikes under the "civil-forfeiture" laws?

Correct. They don't even need to charge anyone with a crime to take their stuff.

Look, I like you. But you're coming off as an arse and a try hard. I get it, you want to fit in with the cool kid clique that trolls me. But just stop, you're making an arse of yourself. And they're never going to accept you into their clique anyway no matter how hard you try.
Lulz. you think I want to be a part of some clique on here? you know me better than that. I like you too and have defended you many times. I think you are a great poster, but I can't side with you on this one. gangs of any kind are not good for society whether on bikes or riding around in impalas in the hood.
I have not personally attacked you, just trying to get you to see the light. I have nothing against guys who ride Harleys as I have many friends who do but I have no tolerance for organized criminal organizations.

You are 100% correct.
You have to hire an attorney to get your property back.
NOPD loves to steal guns using this tactic. Louisiana LE as whole is an embarrassment in this regard.

I'm not defending any criminals and have even spoke out in this thread against the criminal elements of the MC world. Trust me, I have no love for them either.

If I were a betting man, I'd say not a single one of these bikers will see their bikes again. And that is beyond fricked up.

fair enough, I just think it would be hard to be a part of a group that I know has those elements in them and that kind of history.

If the bikes have bank leins on them they will be returned. If they have clear titles they are gone. If they are not in the name of the individual who was riding it, it will be returned ie: Joe Blow was riding his father John Blow's bike as long as John Blow wasn't there.
At least this is what I have found to be true in my former life.

I regularly attend COC meetings and have for years. If this happened in Waco, it could happen anywhere. The thought that attending the next COC meeting could mean I'd either end up dead, in the hospital, or jail and have my motorcycle stolen by the police when my only crime is attending a meeting is truly terrifying.

Man I hate to say it but since you wear a patch (non 1% for the people who don't know) I'd put my assets into another's name or a holding company, just sayin.

Maybe not, just relating my experiences with it from the past here in Texas.

I don't know why you think that matters. If they THINK the property was used in the commision of a crime they will take it, it has nothing to do with who the owner is.

I'm not a biker. I just love to ride bikes sometimes. Probably logged more miles than most of those punks.

He's pretty accurate. Lienholders take precedence.
However, the thieves can still keep the bikes, they just don't do it as often. That's generally b/c they can't get clear title to resell.

Yes, but they will return it to the rightful owner. (lienholder)
You'll never see your guns, cash, TV and anything else they can steal w/o a lawyer.

They do but the cops can sell the bikes, pay off the lienholders and keep the difference. Also, if the bike was in their fathers name it can still be seized.
