What sucks is being old enough to remember what youtube was in the early years. So much better then. Less copyrighted content, and less content forsure but it fostered so many great funny (original) videos . Now its all ads about getting rich quick or some bullshite and tiktok compilations. Besides the logo it isn't even recognizable as the youtube from like 2005.

Also, I think they are going to make the advertisements as ridiculous as possible in hopes you get fed up and just buy the youtube premium.

Edit: as for competition, back in the early days, Vimeo was decent competition and had better quality for the videos themselves but it missed the mark and got left in the dust.

I hit the thumbs down on every single ad. Not that it means less ads, but at least they change them up pretty regular and it is something different. I got so damn tired of seeing the Raycon ear bud ad!

Seriously, though, fast forwarding to the end gets you around the ads. I only watch ads now for people/channels I really like and I want them to get the revenue.

The really long ads suck. I'll let YouTube play sometimes. The random 7 second and two 15 seconds aren't that bad. But I've had entire TV shows show up as ads in the middle of watching something else. That really sucks.

When I watch random videos linked on the computer I don't see ads (blocked) but I watch most of the polished content creators I sub to on TV and see ads.

I honestly don't mind the ads because without them that great high production value content just wouldn't exist. An example is the show "Sorted" on superspeedersRob's channel there is zero way that car show would have been made if it weren't for ads. The few minutes of time I "lost" with those ads on are a small price to pay for the content.

Rumble is in the beginning stages of competing, but they have a ways to go.

Can’t do shite about it on the app, but my home and work computer has a chrome extension to block all that shite.

I pay for the premium. Yeah it’s 15 a month, but I get way more value than the ungodly amount I pay for direct tv.

I'll let the ads play if it's a page I want to support. Its endless free content that we get to enjoy, because of those ads. I don't get the outrage.

No doubt, it could be much worse with the ads, its kind of like the lady with a Virginian ham under one arm crying because she doesn't have any bread. The only time it really bothers me is on my phone because I haven't found a way around them.
