Now NWS Houston mentions 30% chance in the forecast discussion.

Short-term/high-res
guidance seems to be converging on redevelopment of showers this
evening along tail end of amplifying mid/upper trough
overspreading east TX tonight. Forecast soundings suggest this
will be frozen precipitation, likely in the form of sleet/snow. We
could see a dusting with any stronger shower, however quick
duration should limit potential accumulations. Have added chance
wording (20-30 PoPs) to the forecast along the axis shown by the
models extending roughly n-s from San Jacinto/Polk counties
towards the coastal (Galveston/Chambers/eastern Harris/Brazoria)
counties.

Well, I came home to a geyser under my house. The water line to a toilet froze. Sometimes you take all the precautions and you're still fricked. Water is cut off now and I'll be staying elsewhere for a few days.
"Putting the baw in bawcomville."
No baw lets a waterline remove him from his home.

Leave a hair dryer running outside pointed on the pipe.

Alaska is warmer than normal when we get our big cold for the year.
Not always, but the jet stream isn't favorable right now.

Meanwhile, winter storm warnings now issued for the big bend of Florida, through south Georgia into coastal Carolina.
what's TWC naming this 1?

I'm so glad the NWS didn't take up this BS when TWC started doing it

Houston NE toward Lake Charles looking to be the target zone before midnight. Over to Lake Charles might just get some very minor accumulations. Shortwave overperforming over Texas thus far.
Baton Rouge still seems in a bad position for snow. Should be a dry, cold, cloudy and breezy evening.
Southshore still looks in line for a dusting. Will watch as things evolve tonight.

My sister lives in Seattle and it is frequently as cold or colder here in winter than they are. But a few miles inland away from the coastal zone it is much, much colder. And it's much cooler there year round, too. 80 degrees in summer is a heat wave.

We'd be more temperate if we had our body of water west instead of south. It's pretty cool looking up that way and seeing what the mountains do. Doesn't take a big distance into a mountain range for the weather game to really change.

Channel 9 gave very little to any snow for the BR area tonight.
Still 4 more mornings of 20F. WTF?

There's a better chance than I would have suspect this afternoon we get a little, but more likely nothing but cold than anything else.
The shortwave blowing down tonight that might squeeze a bit of snow out is also bringing a reenforcing shot of cold with it. Assuming nothing crazy happens and we get real snow tonight (again, would be shocking) the daytime temps will begin to moderate into the 40s at least.

A friend is reporting snow in Grand Isle.

Weather bug radar is showing snow all over SE Texas and SW LA but I haven't seen anything.

That stretch from Hou to the Sabine ought to be seeing a little something by now. Reports of light sleet/snow coming in from Houston currently. Little storm exceeding expectations.

It was snowing in Fourchon earlier and 20 miles offshore in the Gulf.

Very light sleet at the house. Temp 32.

Small flakes with an occasional big one in Beaumont right now. Not much of anything at the moment

Our little vort is squeezing the hell out of the atmosphere, but there's not a whole lot of juice left to squeeze out. Heart of the moisture is down in the gulf.
