Zachary, new roads, st Francisville have decent accumulations PLUS he called for maybe a couple of slick spots. The whole interstate system is shut down

Yup.

Looks like BR just on the wrong side of persistent warm nose. Too bad. Wanted enough snow to make everything white and pretty.

What is the warm nose? In an illustrative fashion, if possible.

Sleet and snow man, at least where I'm standing.

There's no way liquid rain is getting to the ground.

I say rain because of the little holes it was forming in the already fallen ice.

So a low of 15 with a high of 36 tomorrow -- about 5 hours above freezing. Will roads thaw out? And low tomorrow here is 20. Nasty.

Imagine a column of air, from the ground to the top of the atmosphere. Typically the temperature is the warmest on the ground and cools as it goes up.

Instead, there's a much warmer pocket just above the ground. In that pocket the precip is melting some and then refreezing as sleet on its way down. This is probably why south of BR got so much sleet despite the incredible cold right at the ground.

Vertical Temp profile:

2000 meters COLD (all snow)

500-800 meters WARM (some or all snow melts)

2 meters COLD (melted snow refreezes into sleet)

Hypothetical numbers

My count boss wants us there at 9 tomorrow. I plan on calling him at 8 before he leaves home and seeing if his dumb arse is still trying to drive in.
