President Biden on Saturday signed the largest gun control bill in nearly 30 years less than 24-hours after it passed through the Congress with unusual haste.

"Time is of the essence. Lives will be saved," Biden said in an address to the nation. "From Columbine to Sandy Hook to Charleston, Orlando, Las Vegas, Parkland, El Paso, Atlanta, Buffalo, Uvalde and for the shootings that happen every day in the streets. How many times have you heard that, ‘just do something, for God's sake just do something’?"

The House passed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act Friday in a 234 -193 vote with 14 Republicans crossing party lines just one day after the Senate passed the legislation in a 65-33 vote Thursday night.

The newly-implemented law is an attempt to circumvent mass shootings that have plagued the U.S. for years.

The newest law will incentivize states to pass red flag laws and expand background checks for 18- to 21-year-olds.

quote:

Lawmakers have encouraged states to release previously sealed juvenile records, which could potentially add several days to the waiting period before a gun purchase can be completed.

But even with the new gun control measures, it remains unclear if the two most recent mass shootings could have been prevented by the newest stipulations.

The newest provision calling on states to release juvenile records may have helped to flag Payton Gendron, the Buffalo shooter, who was evaluated for mental health concerns in 2021 but evaded any red flags.

The bill also provides funding for youth mental health programs.

Violates the 2nd and 5th amendments. Clarence Thomas has already started his draft on this decision.

Nope.

But certain people can feel like they are "doing something." I guess as long as it shuts them up a bit.

Try to control these guns, Mr. Biden.

Uvalde and Buffalo would have still happened. No question.

I don't think the part about juvenile records is bad, but I'm still firmly in belief its not going to stop shootings. It night delay things.

That’s how they’ll effectively erode 2A. They’ve increasingly been causing children's “mental health concerns” and now that will be used to deny future generations the right to own a firearm.

Banning guns will be the next step when this doesn’t stop mass shootings. Republicans have fallen into another trap.

Vague unconstitutional shite that has made several municipalities fork over thousands in liabilities for being found to violate rights.

Coming to your red state soon?

I would hope that a more extensive background check would have flagged the ulvade shooter when he went on record stating he would buy a gun at 18 and shoot up a school. If my memory is correct.

Good.

But, frick that. Mental healthcare programs in this country shouldn't be tied to bullshite bills like this.

Yep. There are no red flag laws or background checks on stolen handguns with the serial number filed off.

But no one making the most noise really gives a shite about those killings.

So he's admitting this is all reactionary, emotional governing?

Great. That's usually the best way to approach things.

More gun control. Thank goodness. Now all of the gun crimes committed by criminals should secede to pretty much zero.

Thanks for my safety, Brandon.
