Hahaha
Two weeks for a life changing event and you don’t want to go more than 3 hours from BR. That’s your problem right there.
The world is a big place son. Explore

A change of scenery can change one's thoughts. I need new, better thoughts. I'm bitter at God. I have thoughts of "I'm a loser" creeping in my mind.

The Kisatchie is your answer, but you aren't going to find the answers you're looking for out there. The answers you're looking for can only be found at Golgotha, and you have to humble yourself to find them there. Your dream of a spirit quest in the woods is simple vanity. Grotesque. Repent, and you will find the answers you're looking for.

I like going to the desert for that. Seems a little further than you want to go though.

Go to Vegas for a few days instead.

Dude, the whole league is frickin rigged. We won that game. You gotta realize the whole thing is a farce. Those refs were just doing what they were told.

Well, money becomes an issue with traveling too far.
I thought about heading to Vegas, fricking around in the casinos all day and night playing penny sluts and staying at circus circus. But that doesn't sound too mentally helpful.
However, staying inside the grand canyon for week or more is unlikely but possible. But I want to go alone and that probably wouldn't happen, since I would need someone to help pay for the trip out there and that person would want to go.

Big Bend national park. Follow the Rio. Start far west and work your way east or vice versa.
As someone else said- the desert is where it’s at.

I'm a Christian. That ain't the issue really. Being a Christian doesn't mean a happy life. If often makes life harder. I wish I could be a happy, ignorant Christian. Still saved, but never thinking too deep. Sometimes I envy people with intellectual disabilities.

You want to go off the grid to contemplate your life but also post daily updates on TD? What a sham

You are completely ruled by the ego. You have to repent. God bless. Good luck.

Exactly this. The idea of camping alone is nice but the reluctance to stray from BR is the saddest thing I’ve read all day. He could drive to actual mountains or to an actual desert or beach.
How about Big Bend in Texas? I would not go northward in this cold.

My daughter has cerebral palsy. I wish I could give it to you.
Maybe you should just stay in BR and read Walden.

I've always wanting to go to AK. I don't want get eaten by a bear.
Gold mining would be cool.
In Arkansas they have Crater of Diamonds State Park where you can go dig for diamonds. That is a little out of my way, but it ain't a terrible idea. Kids are in school, the campground should be fairly empty. Hmm...

What radius in miles from you are you willing to travel or able to travel? Day Hikes or tent?
The farther you go the more options, of course. But inside of LA, this time of year you can have a great experience a lot of places. Mostly because everyone is inside for a couple more weeks.
Kisatchie Hills Wilderness: Sierra Club Link...an actual designated Wilderness area close to you.
LINK
I don't think I have ever had a bad Wilderness Experience. But I grew up idolizing John Muir, then living/working in the Alaska Wilderness. A lot of people are terrified of anything outside of City. Probably most people.
You can be in Northern ARK in the mountains in half a day. You can go West to N.Mex in a day -24 hrs -there are 8 different climate zones there from desert to alpine. Spanish Peaks are very nice and just over the border, I think from there you could just go north hit Trinidad and there is the Sangre De Cristo Mountains: first up is Alvarado campground at around 9,000 ft, with higher alpine lakes everywhere and great scenery. It is just west of Westcliffe. Once you start up through Colo it just opens into endless wilderness areas. Sooner or later you may get the bug to go North to Alaska, like I did. As soon as my wife graduated we headed out in DEC for Anchorage and never looked back. Best thing we ever did. I was out of medical school, had started a business waiting on her, sold it, bought a truck, loaded up the dogs, and went into a new life. Everyone in AK was looking for that and it was booming. Changes in latitude, changes in attitude. Crisp air takes away the lethargy of LA heat & humidity...envigorates the soul. That can be had right outside your door this time of year. Start small and the outdoors will lead you out of whatever rut you are in...without fail.
