Are getting to town before 5pm?
Downtown Alive is a free outdoor concert downtown. Starts around 5:30 until 8:30, or so.

The zoo is small but well layed out. Lots of shade and easy to walk. Would be a good 1-2 hr time killer for the kids. Not many zoos let you pet/feed a giraffe

Grab a burger from Judice Inn. Maybe go check out the arts and science museum downtown.

Pretty solid suggestion. There is also a SkyZone in Lafayette that your kids will probably enjoy. Its one of those indoor trampoline parks.

You could also drive 10 minutes east of town to Lake Martin and check out the gators.

ULL has a natural looking swamp habitat in the middle of campus.

The Olde Tyme grocery po boy suggestion was a great one.

Light lunch at Judice Inn for that old timey burger joint experience.

Then take the family to Borden's for ice cream. Nothing else like it in south Louisiana.

Both are on Johnston St.

^This.
And to add to that I would recommend getting at least two burgers
2 double cheese burgers with sautéed onions if you're fat like me

Hopefest is going on downtown. It's put on by a local high school and proceeds help out a local charity. There's live music and plenty of activities for your kids to do.

Wife's bra size becomes incredibly relevant for his enjoyment of this location, will need pics to advise.

What's so awesome about it? It's in the middle of an industrial park & the tasting room has absolutely no character..especially for it being one of the more established craft breweries in the state. Parish has excellent flagship beers but I found the in house menu to be nothing exceptional. I appreciate a good IPA as well but I was expecting something besides the typical hoppy bandwagon trend.
*You should probably experience more breweries, especially InState ones if you think Parish is best in country. ALL of the S'Port/Bossier breweries, especially Great Raft & Red River blow Parish away.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Great Raft is one of the best breweries in the South. They blow most people away.

Take turns running across Ambassador Caffery and Johnston St at 4:30 this afternoon. Last one standing wins.

Go to Downtown Alive tonight. It's always fun, then go to Pop's Poboys for a sandwich (also downtown). You can get some gelato right next door if you want dessert. Chocolate and biscoff mix goes hard AF.
