I live on the south side, and as you know, there has been an enormous amount of development in this area in terms of dining options to prevent me from even thinking about going all the way downtown again.
We love sushi from Tsunami, but instead of going there, we order that shite delivery from Takeout Express.
Go to Oishi and try their sushi. Call it in and be prepared to wait though, it's just one old dude making it all.

Nightlife that isn't catered to college kids, small town trash, and minorities would be huge as well. There aren't exactly many good bar options in downtown Lafayette if you're over the age of 21 and not a truck nuts baw.
Corner Bar or Tap Room should try to get a spot but I think we have laws that prevent new bars from coming up.

True, and Champagne's is pretty far away as well.
Downtown is generally considered to be the area between Johnston street, University, Congress, and the thruway. Residents there have to leave that area to meet basic needs.
The council is considering removing the restriction of the number of liquor licenses downtown, as there have been a few bars and restaurants close in the recent few years.

I was kinda being sarcastic, but what the hell.....we're talking about Laffy here! Everything about it is world class...it's just that awesome!

I feel like downtown has gotten much better lately. More festivals, good restaurants, but yeah it could do better.
It has. I've been working there almost two years now, and the improvement in that short time has been great, but I can see the writing on the wall with the Pols. SOSDD

Downtown needs at the bare minimum these two things: improved housing options (not just a few nice lofts, but semi-gentrified neighborhoods), and a grocery store.
There may be restrictions in place for this. Not sure though.
There is a small store in the Tech Drug Store.

Wal Mart on the thruway are not near close enough. The market for grocery stores in Lafayette is probably close to being saturated, so who would want to invest in downtown?
Heard a rumor that the WM on the Thruway is where SAMs will be moved to now that COSTCO is open. Like I said...Rumor, but it came from a good source.

It's a very complicated issue, to revitalize a partially blighted area of town
Yes, you have to balance the PC narrative for the new America along with making sure all the pols get paid off.
Complicated indeed.
In the end, only one group wins.

When will this "joke" go away. It's not funny

That big arse place that keeps closing down by Agave downtown. That may be a good location for a small grocery store. Seems large enough and it's right across from the parking tower.
