Why would this thread be moved to the OT?

D - ~265
3W - 240
2H (18 deg) - 225-230
4 - 200
5 - 190
6 - 180
7 - 170
8 - 160
9 - 145-150
PW - 135
AW - 125
56 - 105-110
60 - ~90

That's my rough estimate. I play probably 3-4 times a week during the summer months, 1-2 times a week before and after, take the months of January and February off most years (loath cold weather golf).

The hardest thing for me right now is knowing the carry distance vs roll distance. Honestly this really only comes into play on par 3's, but would help a lot I think. My 3 wood is probably my least confident club in my bag, which is so weird because it used to be my favorite. I'm ridiculously streaky with my driver. I'll go a month during the summer hitting it great around 270-280 and then get a big fade to a straight slice that I can't correct for months at a time.

I normally shoot low 80's. Getting from 100 to low 80's came pretty steady but I haven't gotten any improvement in almost a year. The only bright spot that I have currently is that I feel like I've finally found a putting stroke that has been working well for me lately. I'm hoping that this summer that translates into finally getting to hit in the high 70's more often. I've hit one 70's round in my whole life on a relatively easy course last year at 77. Although I haven't had any more improvement lately, it's really fun to play golf now almost always, and that I am happy with.

What I would really like to learn to do is draw and fade when I want to instead of by mistake, and use a interlocked grip. Every time I try to tinker with either I get worse, so I rarely even try anymore.

There are two ways to go about this. One, to fully understand why the ball does what it does, you have to instantly be able to conceptualize ball flight rules. Just knowing that your club face, alignment, etc has to be in a particular position isn't enough...you have to know why those positions cause a certain shot. Studying is involved here (or countless hours watching shots). The second way is to feel it, having someone teach it to you. Both methods are in your head, but you are using different parts of your brain to put each into effect.

and use a interlocked grip

Takes about 500 balls over multiple range sessions to get accustomed to a new grip...this isn't something that comes overnight for the average golfer.

Go to a range and hit a few buckets... If you need to, keep track on scratch paper.

Fun fact: that's where the term "Scratch golfer" comes from!

Honestly I just don't think it will be worth the work in the end. In your opinion, is this a must? I know a lot of instructors that tell you it's not worth it...

Have you been trying to Monday Qualify anywhere?

What mini tours are you on currently?

Is the Hooters tour still intact?

Same here. I made a New Year Resolution to break 80 again by the end of summer. I've already played/practiced more in the last two months than all of last summer, yet I've really only played one 18 hole round (bunch of 9 hole rounds), so I haven't tracked my progress yet, per se. Spent lots of time on the range working on fundamentals and my swing. Confident I'll get to 70s by August

Grip is something that is said to be personal preference, but I firmly believe (as do others) that some grips are more beneficial for certain swing types/styles.

It all depends on what you're trying to accomplish. Do you want to be a power hitter? Do you want to play with finesse? Both?

Well, at this point I have started to accept that I'm not a power golfer. I'd like to have a longer drive but I'm ok with where my iron distances are. That being said, when I'm feeling comfortable with my swing, and be confident in it, I can swing harder and that gives me about 25+ yards on my drives. I tend to back off and think more when I'm hitting it array.

The times I've tried the interlock, I was convinced it would help me with my slice when I have one. Now I understand my swing slot and path better, and while it may help some, that's more of what I need to be focused on.

A lot of people can't admit that. I did early on, and it benefitted me greatly.

You could say goodbye to that if you switch. It's not that you won't hit it that extra distance, but a 10-finger grip promotes power over touch, so it won't be as likely.

Switching to interlock will slow your swing down, and will let you feel the swing a lot more. When making the switch, swing at 65%-75% for a few range sessions.

Are you right handed?
