re: Best way to get yardage for your iron shots?

I bet most of these 150+ are hitting a 42* PW.
Which is a 9i
Biggest scam in golf. Get rid of the 3i and sell 4i to GW instead. But lofted at 3i to PW. Then advertise them as at least 10 yards longer!

I dont know why I said 135. I hit it 125.
I can hit it farther but I dont need to. I have a nice casual swing and it helps with accuracy. I over work the ball when I go at it.

quote:I wouldn't hit a PW 165. 155 is about perfect. Like I said, I'll muscle up on it(and might be short) sometimes but at 165 I'm not even thinking about hitting it.
165 is high but its not insane
I'm 6' 5''. I don't remember exactly what we had the club people do to my clubs when I was fitted for them, but I think(not entirely sure if this is even possible) they're a little bit longer and I know the loft and angle was changed. I hit my irons WAY higher than anybody I've ever played with. That info was taken into consideration when tweaking them.

Play 4 times a year, you'll hit each iron about 40 times each, max. Total. That's about 3 times a month, average.
0 chance you'll be consistent enough to need to know.

Well if you're adding 2" to your 42* PW to account for your height, it's going to play like a standard length 8i

There you go then. I hit MP-25s, if anyone cares to know. It won't keep me up at night, but all this "don't be that guy" shite is fricking ridiculous. I don't care how far I hit my clubs, hell I used to hit them farther(is it farther or further?) when I was in playing shape.
This thread isn't titled "how far do you hit your clubs?" I'm not trying to brag. I'd still like to know what the best way to dial in distances is.

A good driving range with a more normal range ball. Combined with a lot of practice and learning based on situations.
If I can I'll go out to a flat hole with no wind and step off and hit 5 or 6 shots from 130, 140, 150, etc.

It's farther. Farther relates to distance.

I'll have to figure something out. Eaglebrooke is probably the easiest place for me to go around town. They have nice range balls, but their driving range is a bit uphill. And the wind is always stiff and in your face.
I really need to figure out my 7, 6, and 5. I play 2-3 times per week now and I'm getting consistent enough to where just being somewhere around the green on every single approach isn't satisfying anymore. I hit enough good shots now that being long or short because of club selection is pissing me off.
Can a club fitter help me at a shop? Or is it a must to do it outside?
Thanks Tebow

You probably need to start charting shots. Even at least mentally.

I do that a bit already. It's just much easier around the 150 because it's easier to visualize the distance and be sure of it. Like, I pretty much know what 160 looks like. I'm not too sure what 207 looks like, ya know? Do I need to get a gps? I don't always play with someone who has one.

thats nuking a PW. but if im 160ish out thats the club I would use and try to muscle up and get it there because i feel most confident and hit it flush the most. I rarely play though

Golf has a rare trifecta: control, distance and accuracy. Very few people on this earth ever master all three for prolonged periods of time at the same time.
Instead of hacking away a PW to 150, get some control and accuracy in your game. That paired with putting will get 90s into 80s and 80s into 70s.
Golf gets fun when you hit that 9 iron 145 and post a round in the 70s.
I find that the guys that bomb it may win a few holes here and there, but I win the match and leave with the money.

It is. I tend to pull the ball or draw it way too much when I have too much club and take something off, so I usually pound a more lofted club when I'm between clubs.

quote:This is very true. The friend I play with the most absolutely crushes a golf ball. I'd get into it but from the looks of it, I'd be laughed off this board. But it's mind blowing what he can do. Anyways, I adjust the way I play when I can tell he's trying to get a big dick that day. I go from beating him ~40% to ~60% of the time when dialing it back a bit. When I do that and beat him, it's the most fulfilling feeling ever. Much more enjoyable than trying to pound it out with him.

I have the golf itch. I want to play a course I've never played.

I've been playing a ton lately. Do you live in Florida?
