Best washing machine and dryer combo, large capacity, non-high efficiency

I know the OT is speed queen territory and that’s the one I’m considering but the capacity seems small (3.2cf). I have three boys and they stay dirty which means a lot of really dirty clothes and towels. I don’t a HE unit that uses minimal water. I want something that’s going to wash the shite (figuratively and sometimes literally) out of large amounts of clothes and towels. Also prefer no electronics.
The sq set with gas dryer is about $2100
Tl:dr: no electronics, no high efficiency, large capacity, $2100 budget.
Help me out....

Looks like the new ones have lid locks now (thanks government) but don’t lock until the cycles start, not while filling. Other brands lock when full starts.
Can also still select water level or auto fill. He said never use auto fill because it doesn’t use any water.

My wife has been researching the shite out of washer and dryers. After 15 years her Maytags have finally reached the end. She kept running into terrible reviews on everything new though, including Maytag. The only ones she found that consistently has good reviews are Speed Queen. She’s ordered a Speed Queen washer and dryer so I guess we will find out when they’re delivered.

I would suggest mechanical Whirlpool branded models. Whirlpool services a large variety of brands. My 25 year old Kenmore set is still going strong due to Whirlpool parts that I was able to replace myself thanks to youtube videos

The small privately owned outfit my family has used for years for purchase and service of appliances started carrying Speedqueen a couple years ago. When I finally decide to take the shotgun to our piece of shite Whirlpool, I will buy Speedqueen.

We purchased a Maytag set w/d for about $1200 - they were on sale. Marked down from $950 each.
Sometimes you can find a unit that has a scratch etc at a marked down price. We weren’t brand specific just shopped by price or discount- we asked the sales person their opinion on what units were returned or complaints etc.
I hope this helps

I have a 2015 speed queen. It is literally the only thing I bothered to clean and save after the flood. Everything else that touched water was thrown out. It is a beast. I have major OCD and wash everything all the time. No issues.

Maytag
Maytag, Kenmore, whirlpool are all made in the same plant and just rebranded. I've had a Kenmore elite pair all electronic for 10 years with no problems. I just got a set of whirlpool cabrio at the scratch and dent for half price with a manufacturer warranty.

Thanks for these suggestions. Do they meet my search criteria? Honestly, open to any brand that can has a large capacity, isn’t restricted to high efficiency settings, and preferably is all mechanical.

Kenmore, Maytag and Whirlpool all have 6+ cuft washers and dryers I believe. The Kenmore I bought 10 years ago is over 6. My whirlpool set is 5.7cuft. No problems with king size comforters or 30 towels.

I had/have Whirlpool Duet w&d going on 16 yrs. just replaced washer because the noise was too aggravating The main drum spindle broke which is the kiss of death - replace or enjoy the noise. The part is like $400. The dryer we only changed the heating element and drum rollers.
I would buy again

The problem is a lot of the ones y’all are recommending are old style and the government put the kibash on what makes them good (full water). No doubt the quality of parts/build are still there with some of these brands.
Coincidently, my mother in law came visit just now and I know she’s been having trouble with hers. She said she has a high capacity heavy duty Maytag and she said it doesn’t clean because it doesn’t fill up with water, takes multiple washes to get stuff clean. I asked if she’d sacrifice the extra capacity for the ability to select the water level. She said absolutely.

I think you can still buy Kenmoore, Maytag/ Whirlpool, with just the one knob mechanical timer, that eliminates all the electronic crap which has been the main trouble area on my current HE washed.

The change was in 2018, 17s and under are good. For 19 they brought the old model back, I believe it the model number starts with TC. They still make the other one too.

Look for a Whirlpool top load washer with an agitator and adjustable water level features.

I heard that SQ went to some plastic parts (gears?) few years ago but now have gone back to metal. New ones I think are supposed to be fine.
I had a Maytag washer that I bought from a college roommate at graduation in 1988. When he moved in with it (1984) I thought “wow, that is an old washing machine!” Had to be from early 70’s. I had it with no problems until we built a new house in 2005 and my wife forbid moving that rusty machine to our new house. I gave it away and we then went through 3 new maytags and one Bosch front loader over the next 15 years. The Bosch ($850) was HE and barely wet the clothes. Gave it away to the church because wife had to run it three times before clothes smelled clean. Finally bought a speed queen 3 years ago. No electronics, non-HE, and weighs about 500 lbs. no issues at all so far.
TL/DR: Maytags are not what they used to be. Also, absolutely don’t buy an HE whatever brand you choose.
