Are there any American cities that has the lure of the big city but lack all the inner city woes, crime. Basically being stationed in Europe has spoiled me.

All the clean streets, and people out and about, the efficient, variety and ease of public transport. You feel like you're in la-la land.

I'm thinking about moving to Metro DC even though I know your money does not go as far there as other places. How is the DC area/Northern VA. Does amenities and comfort make up for prices?

In short what are areas more like North Rhine-Westphalia and less like Shreveport in the US?

Oh Huntsville and NOLA is a no go baws.

USA cities are trash baw. Work remote but near a small city with decent food scene.

I travel to Columbus, OH for work a lot. If I wasn’t so tied to LA and was just getting out of college going into the corporate world, that’s where I’d be.

Great city. All the huge cities are becoming shittier. There are still a lot of great places to live in the US, however.

Columbus, Fayetteville, Asheville, Charleston, Salt Lake, and a whole bunch of other smaller ones.

Charlotte, especially if your single millennialish. Not sure it’s very Rhineish though.

Although, since Covid, I don’t think anyone even works uptown anymore. It was better when Pat McCrory (r) was mayor. We’ve had a long run of idiot democrat mayors.

How old a baw are you? That makes a big difference.

There aren’t any. I say this as someone who lived four years in Germany.

San Diego is nice, but still lots of homeless.
Chicago is great as nearly all of its crime is segregated away from downtown and the nice areas. Phoenix isn’t terrible, just very spread out.

I sometimes wonder if America is the only country to stupidly house it’s poorest trashiest citizens in the primest real estate—right in the middle of every major city. Huge swaths of areas within the heart of every major city which should be vibrant and teeming with money are instead shitholes. Due to government housing.

Lol. Virtually every major American city has seen a mass renaissance near their urban core and urban living is more popular among upper middle class and upper class families than ever. There are few cities that are total dumps.
