As if living in BR wouldn’t already be depressing enough

I think the application period is right now. I have a friend doing it.

either St. James Episcopal downtown or Our Lady of Mercy - if you want your child to stay there for school

St. Luke’s, Trinity, STM, St. Aloysius, St. George and St. Jude are very good as well

For preschool only - the First United Methodist downtown is very good

And maybe the LSU Early Childhood Lab

I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Fundamentals place out in Central, if you live that way

Dunham might be good - I’ve only known of a child that went through their special education program

We homeschool so this is my honest opinion (and mostly unbiased)

Any of the Catholic Schools are basically interchangeable. We lived at the nexus of Sacred Heart, St Aloysius, and Mercy parishes. Visited all three and chose Mercy because we liked the vibe. Go visit and see which one “feels” right.

The kids from St Aloysius and St George are some cocky dipshits like their parents compared the the other Catholic Schools in the area.
But yes the schools' education are all about the same as they coordinate with the public school curricula, but they foster the nerdy kids' advancement better than public schools.

We chose to go with St. Jude because of location and class size. Could have gone St. George but I believe they now have 5 classes per grade. St. Jude is still at 2 classes. I believe Aloysius and Mercy are either also at 5 classes per grade or are close to making the jump from 4.

We're very happy with St. Jude but you won't go wrong with whatever school you choose. Aside from good ol fashioned rivalry trash talk, i have never heard any real negative comments about any private school in BR - Catholic school or otherwise.

We looked high and low throughout all of BR recently, and here is what we came up with:

Tier 1:
Episcopal
Trinity
Dunham
St James

Tier 2:
All the Catholic schools - St Jude and Sacred Heart being the smallest class / size wise, St George & Aloysious being the largest

Tier 3:
U High (I know you said private, but U High is a good option, has a competitive waiting list and requires testing to get in and isn’t free)

Bonus Info:
First Presbyterian and First United Methodist have the best early learning / pre K programs

Your decision greatly hinges on where you live or want to live if moving. Always go to the school on the bus route where you live.

My kids go to Mercy and live in Tara. We love it and the community of parents are fun.

I'm not even catholic. Really great school.

Cocky? No. Downright money-worshipping, fake, assholes that breed more bullying, fake, money-worshipping assholes.

Any nice kids and parents there are the exception and not the rule.

I couldn’t agree more. Location is more important to me, especially with how bad the traffic is. We chose our school and house so they’d be really close together and couldn’t be happier.

No way would I choose a school across town because some clique said it was the best school only to have to sit in the car for hours a day transporting my kids to/from school, practices, etc.
