I'm moving out of the country as soon as I can. I would love to go ONE day without being told how horrible I am

Edit original post and stop talking about Idaho now.

I have been doing some research and it appears to be one of the best kept secrets in America.

We can’t take the chance that undesirables read this and move there. Delete it now and never speak of it a loud again.

Spot on. I’ve never voted republican either. But the vocal left has gone totally off the rails for now. And it’s starting to creep into those that aren’t normally vocal or radical.

It's not limited to podunk towns. I have a neighbor here in suburban Birmingham that won't go downtown after dark because he's convinced the entire downtown is a war zone.

I’m not afraid to go anywhere, but there are an increasing amount of areas I won’t go without conceal carrying or having a concealed weapon in my vehicle.

Because you see, there is no room for nuance now. You are a racist or you support the cause.
This is an online phenomenon, IMO. I never get those reactions in real life. I can't really envision any scenarios where those topics came up though. At least not with people I don't know well.

just so i'm clear on OT jargon - is this what the far right, nazi sympathizing, white supremacists get their news from?

I didn’t say that. I only mean people will see one slanted article or segment and label a place a shithole because they were told to, not because they’ve seen it with their own eyes.

quote:

you can say it's the 'vocal minority' and while in the sense of #'s they may be a minority, but their every want, wish, desire is being catered to because no one will tell them "No". So i'm not sure they can be talked about as a 'minority' anymore.

You basically just paraphrased what I just said. I said that we’re catering to them for some reason. It doesn’t make them the majority though.

i guess the riots, protests and related property damage and arrests over the last month were imaginary? Would you assume that crime goes up or goes down in these blue cities after cops back off?

Only stuff I saw was on tv. Didn’t see shite in person.

I think the Seattle/Portland autonomous shite and Atlanta cops walking off are outliers really. I guess we will see, but that Atlanta DA was horrendously stupid in bringing those charges. I would hope that example will serve to keep others from doing the same to appease a mob, but I may still be an idealist there.

Riots/property damage is inexcusable and you and I have talked about it plenty so you know my view of it. We only had like 1 or 2 instances here though.

Totally. Even some overwhelmingly liberal forums/websites seem to think this cancel culture is absurd.

Obama made some comments on this recently and how wrong it is to target people for having differing opinions. It's not very productive and is a bad look. Targeting people who deserve it is very different than going after everyone you disagree with and trying to get them cancelled. As someone else in this thread already said, and I try to mention often, there's a lot of nuance in life and if we just make binary judgements, we're doomed as a society.

You guys really do love gerrymandering don’t you?

North Texas is centered around Dallas. You don’t even have to exclude it to prove north Texas is mostly red. Outside of the city itself, the whole area is fairly conservative and if you go further out, it gets dark red.

He’s absolutely right, but if he says that too much, they might turn on him and start pointing out he’s half white.

These are good friends, and neighbors. This was no heated debate, just civil conversation. I don’t talk politics with anyone I don’t know well. It’s just not wise to do today, sadly.

Thanks for sharing. Love this comment.

If the left could get itself to a reasonable place, it would be a really great thing for me.

Idaho is also getting the people fleeing Seattle and Chop. What's happened to Seattle is crazy -- 25 years ago that was the capital of computing and tech, and Seattle was one of our hottest cities. Now, one of its best areas is being held hostage by giant socialist weasels.

that’s the thing tho - who at this point knows the Left’s agenda? Is it affordable healthcare OR abolishing the police / open borders / free healthcare for all? Until there’s some visible separation between Democrats and these Uber progressive liberals a lot of the country would rather firmly stay voting Red.
