Old Metairie, there are pockets that are still quasi afforadble $250 to $300 psf.

Havent checked in awhile but the Hog's alley portion of OM is a great little pocket that still has some older, not snotty, houses that could maybe be affordable. Loved living in that area as a renter.

Gotta love the NS traffic and Causeway comments. None of my neighbors here commute, it’s 2022 folks not everyone drives into an office. Must be the poors commuting, get a better job and you won’t have to worry about traffic.

Last sentence is a bit dick, but some truth.
As a commuter to the Southshore, I feel like a minority. Plenty of people up here live and work here.
Far less dependence on NO than people think. Still, need to catch up on road and drainage infrastructure.
Northshore is the best, though. Moving to Mandeville is the best decision I ever made.

Unless you are referring to Delacroix or Venice, GTFO!

The building/grounds on Poland St in NO are properly referred to as the Port of Embarkation, MEPS, or the F. Edward Hebert conplex. Horrible what the city of NO did with that historic property. Abandoned it.

Shhhhhhh. The people in Harahan and River Ridge don't want you to know they exist.

Loved growing up in BSL. I'd like to move back there ASAP. However, it is changing more and more every time I go back. There are now pay to park lots by the small downtown area. What in the actual frick! It's changing into a whorish version of it's former self and living off the tourist dollars. It's sad but still a beautiful place.

if you don't have work near new orleans, why tf would you live on the northshore?

It used to be St Tammany, but the traffic is so bad over there Old Metairie is now the best. It has some of the genteel Uptown vibe without the over the top crime and potholes.

Harahan/River Ridge is about as good as you can get in Jefferson provided you aren't spending $500k+ to live anywhere in Old Metairie.

Neighborhood bars and restaurants that are walkable. Beautiful tree lined streets. Maybe the lack of potholes is throwing you.

No, I guess it's the below statement

quote:

Doesn't strike me a walkable area to get to restaurants or bars. There's Metairie Rd. but how many people actually access those establishments and don't drive. I never see people walking to and from?

Depending on which part of OM you're in, there's plenty walkable options.

When I lived in the area, I walked to several places many times. MIL is still there and we walk to everything in the Bonnabel/Metairie Rd area unless it's hot

Because it’s by far the best place to raise a family in south louisiana…..If you want to still be close to grandparents and family, and have a nice place to raise a family, the northshore beats all other places without even a close comparison.

I think “not a far distance” and “walkable” are different things. Might be semantics to some, but I feel a difference. Are there connected sidewalks where you don’t have to cross major roads etc etc

Old Metairie is by far the best area of the Southshore, but it doesn’t really feel walkable for a lot it. Some areas I could see it though
