I'm thinking of moving closer to home and always hear this is the best part of Louisiana to live. What neighborhoods should I consider if my budget is 500k-600k? Needs to have good schools too if possible.

Is Beau Chene still the place to be? I know Mandeville High is still a good school.

With that budget you should consider slidell.

Really? Looks like lots in that range on Zillow. I'd be willing to broaden my search if needed, but don't think I'd be in the dell.

Family has been in Del Oaks and Beau Chene. Both are very nice. Del Oaks seemed a little more secluded but waterfront property is expensive on the river. Beau Chene is a large country club neighborhood.

You got me on schools

Beau Chene used to be in Mandeville HS district so I'd imagine it still is. It's still ranked as a top 10 public HS in LA.

Madisonville is the westbank compared to slidell.

I just don't agree with that, but I've always found the area around Jahncke Ave. in Covington to be less obnoxious than the other parts of St. Tammany. Probably fails the school test, though.

Tchefuncta Club Estates is very nice, too, but I think you're in that same Covington High / William Pitcher school district.

Thanks for the inquiry, but we have no current vacancies for the foreseeable future.

Most of Madisonville is Mandeville High school zone. Mandeville is split between Mandeville High, Fontainebleau(sp?) and Lakeshore High. All rank pretty great among other non magnet non charter public schools. Fontainebleau may be on a little bit of the decline if I can give any input. I think Madisonville high school will be something that happens soon, given the growth.

In your price range, you should be able to check most boxes on a good place to live.

1st cousin is in Beaux Chene. They love that place and I doubt they ever leave. Not sure where the kiddos go to school.

Another friend we’ve visited in the Sanctuary. IMHO, that’s an uptight hood. No thanks.

And $450k min to build.

Madisonville elementary
Lancaster elementary
Madisonville jr. High
Mandeville high school.

Ive been very happy, traffic is a pain but anywhere not right off of the bridge is horrible.
