$260K homes in just about anywhere are not in an area where you would want to live, are they?

It always looks closed when I drive past when we go back to visit.

Do you really want an 80 mile round trip commute every day?

Why do people always make this horrible argument? 80 miles round trip is well worth it if you don’t have to deal with shitty quality of life for your family. Not everyone is content with living in BR and having to put up with bullshite.

Mass majority of folks (black and white) that live in New Roads are 4+ generational residents of the area. Very very few “new” families move out there.
St Francisville is my dream spot to live. My grandmother is part owner of a 100+ acre piece of land up there that’s tied up between her and 20+ of her cousins. It was originally for my g-g-g-grandparents. She wants us to have nothing to do with it, but she still pays her part of the property taxes….Reason why? She never told us.

Depends on the following factors:
1. Where you work
2. Your housing budget
3. how big of a lot you want
4. Do you want your kids to go to decent public schools?
In general, if you work downtown, NBR, or anywhere along Florida Blvd or Government, I think Central is a good place. If you work in South Baton Rouge then I'd go for Prairieville. Zachary and St. Francisville if you work in NBR or downtown but understand that Zachary will be Baker in 10 years.

So Zachary used to be the place to be but it’s slowly declining? What about Clinton?

The biggest problem with Central is that it's too close to Glen Oaks and the neighborhoods down Hooper and Greenwell Springs. But it might still hold out from that taking over the town and schools. I'm from there so not shitting on it but I think it will have a lot of the same problems as Zachary.

Amazing that Scotlandville hasn’t been mentioned yet.
Wonderful quality of life amongst the Scots.
As for me and my house, we’d live and die in Scotlandville.

Lanier Dr is another warzone now. It’s hard to imagine that area was once filled with working class plant workers and their families.

My childhood neighborhood and the surrounding ones in Central aren't that great anymore although I think most of it is fine. But I remember when Sharon Hills was a really nice middle class neighborhood too.

My dad owns a few rent houses that I help him manage in Central down Hooper near Blackwater. We've had the door kicked in from the cops busting drug dealers in one of them.
The woman stole all of the appliances when they left after the baby daddy went to jail too. We've had a lot of sketchy tenants.

Yeah, just leave by 6am if you want to make sure you're in BR by 8am.

When I think of Central, the first thing that comes to mind is the Shark Lyfe crew, and how the Dad was a commercial airline pilot

I knew a guy in one of the Facebook photos posted in that original thread. It was the little brother of someone I knew growing up

The most disturbing part of that screenshot is 304 people liked it.

With gas prices going up, I can’t imagine all the money going just to gas commute. I know people who love driving but I don’t want to spend 2 hours of my day just driving after 8-12 hours of work a day.

Well For one I wouldn’t base my decision on where to raise a family on current inflation trends. They go up and down. This isn’t the first time gas has risen.
I guess Some things like quality schools, public services and low crime don’t matter to people.
