Best place to bring a stray dog in Baton Rouge?

So my roommate picked up a puppy on the side of the road about a week ago and we're looking for a good shelter to bring her to. As far as we know she hasn't had a check up or any vaccinations.
Anyone have any experience with this?

Shelters will not take them last I heard. Only option is bringing or having animal control take him.

God placed that puppy on the side of the road just for your roommate.
It's meant to be for roomie to keep her.
Enjoy your stray dog. They're the best.

If you bring him to a shelter they will put him to sleep. That's just the harsh reality. The best thing you can do is take care of him until you can find him a good home if you can't take care of him yourself.

I hate kill shelters for any stray animals.
Put an ad on craigslist for him and see if anyone can take him.. not sure how long you can hold the dog.. but if you can or someone else can.. put an ad on craigslist in the pets community section.
I know it's harder to find homes for older dogs, but maybe try.
Good luck

We would love to keep her but we're four engineering students with limited incomes and other responsibilities. The roommate that brought her in (without asking any of us) is very lazy and expecting the rest of us to take care of her or find a place for her so it's not a very good situation.

You're a student. Trust me, you've got more time on your hands than you think.
How much is a bag of dog food for man's best friend?
For me, that's a bargain.

What kind of dog is it? Is it housebroken?

We adopted one of our dogs from a foster called FAWS. You may check them out and at least see.

I see you're already practicing at slipping that in wherever possible. All you need to do now is run a marathon and you will have accomplished the trifecta
- engineer
- marathon runner
- rescue dog
You will never run out of shite to say.
Check with CAAWS and the other rescue groups around town as well as the various facebook dog rescue groups. Also telling us a little about the dog wouldn't kill you either, perhaps even take a picture?
