About to buy a house and have to mow the lawn for the first time since I was doing it for my allowance. It's a small yard, definitely no need for a riding mower. Does anyone here use a reel mower or electric mower? Are any of them worth a crap since it seems they would be less maintenence than going gas?

I know, I'm not an OT baller since I don't pay a crew of Mexicans to do it for me, and terd's out since he insists on mowing topless.

One is a lot of work and the other will cost more than a gas mower when the batteries quit charging.

Just get you a cheap push mower from Lowe's or something and roll with it.

I'm on my 6th year with a self propelled TroyBilt and it's been doing good. Can't remember what I paid, $300 at the most, maybe $250, can't remember.

Will definitely look at Craigslist, and yes, that's me.

If it is a small yard, then go for a reel push mower. All it requires is the blades sharpened once/year by a kit (easy). I just locked up a 24 year old steel case Honda self propelled I had last week (long story). Went to Home Depot last week and dropped $399 on a new Honda mower...they are worth every penny one spends on...love the dual blades, great mulch and get a clean cut on the blade of grass.

That's what I was wondering. Batteries seem like a bad idea, and frick a corded mower.

Husqvarna awd push/walk behind with Honda motor, I've had it for three years. it's great, starts on first pull, has mulch, side discharge and bagging options.

Just get a cheap gas mower.

The key to longevity is to start it up once a week, even if not mowing. You need to religiously run that thing even in winter to keep it happy.

Just pay the crew $40 every two weeks and never worry about it.

Come on.

So I have to live in a jungle for the second week? That might work in AZ.

I just bought a little Dixon Zeeter 30" ZTR off of Craigslist yesterday for $300.

It's the blue one in the pic.

I stole that thing at $300 as it runs great and before anyone ask why I have so many mowers it's because I manage a shitload of repo houses and part of that is I have grass crews that cut the yards during the Summer.

Don't get a reel mower. I've never used one, but have watched people use them and they look miserable. I'm also of the idea that any lawn care equipment should not be electric besides a blower. I have a cheap honda push mower that has not missed a beat in 3 years, even after my wife poured the gas/oil mix I had for the weed eater into the lawn mower.

Just put Sta-bil in it. The biggest thing that goes wrong with a small engine is the carburetor or the magneto gets rusty from people letting them get rained on. Both are easy fixes.

For an issue with the carb just use some mechanic in a bottle and the magneto is an easy fix with some sandpaper and a wire brush.

I've never heard of dixon. What's the going rate for one of those? What engine is in it?
