First off…. Don’t come here asking for advice on American cars… The Toyota dick smokers will jump all over you…

Second… Do research somewhere else, go test drive cars and get what you like….

My wife has a ‘19 Traverse 3LT, she loves it and it has been great…

It’s loaded and before covid hit, we got it just over 36K. Three rows with leather… 2nd row captain’s seats, GM’s version of Weather Tech floor liners, Bose 10 speaker entertainment system, 20” rims and the 310 hp 3.8 liter V6. It’s one level below the Premier model.

don’t want to shell out the $65-$75k for a Tahoe or Expedition

Same reason we went with the Traverse…

How many 70 y/o’s need a 3 row vehicle to haul kids around in?

Someone missed the part in the OP where he said he doesn’t want to spend $65k-$75k, unless you thought that means he wanted to spend more.

I guess I'd also be this defensive if I was saddled with a Traverse.

Well considering his options have been the
1. Chevy Traverse
2. Chevy Traverse

It may be time for him to adjust his price range, buy a non "American" car, or go and get the Chevy Traverse.

This isn't the pre-2020 car market. 3 row sporty SUVs got expensive

My guess, the highest price trim level, the Platinum, will top out at 58-60K.

Lol, have you been living under a rock these past two years? If you can get that car for that price, it's like a unicorn type of deal. Actual price, after dealer markups etc, will be thousands more.

My wife's Honda Pilot has been awesome.

The new gen Honda Pliots are awesome. They are like 2x better mechanically and looks-wise compared the to previous generation.

The best option for the OP is a 2023 Honda Pilot EX-L, barring a minivan like the Odyssey or the Sienna.

ETA: The middle seat in the new Pilots can be taken out and stowed out of sight in the trunk instantly converting the car into a 7-seater with captains chairs in the second row. If you are transporting 8 passengers, you can install the middle seat back. It is a very clever design. That's a lot of flexibility that Honda has designed into them.

My company only buys domestics for their fleet, and as a result, I have had domestic SUVs for the past 25 years. In that time I have had a Trailblazer, a couple of Ford Explorers, and a couple of Dodge Durangos. My two favorites have been the Dodge Durangos. The latest is a 2020 model and has more features than any I have ever had. The feature that I like the most is about a 4” LCD screen that you can sync your phone to for directions when traveling. The Durango also gets the best fuel mileage - averages over 25 mpg. Coupled with a 25 gallon fuel tank gives me some major range out of a single tank.

When I was growing up, Dodge was crap. That is no longer the case.

just get the Tahoe. we settled 3 years ago and regretted it. I traded for a Tahoe and am so happy! A compromise vehicle is horrible!

Well I was specifically referring to the fact that Nissan is a Japanese company. I realize quite a few "foreign" cars are made in the USA these days.

The Durango is under rated. That’s a solid, nice riding vehicle. And you can get it with a V8.

How many 3 row vehicles should just be minivans is the real question.

Some people don’t want to drive a minivan…

They were called station wagons before the term Sports Utility Vehicle was stolen from 2 door SUVs when Ford came out with the Explorer.

I was right. Pricing came out at 58k for the Highest priced trim and engine. There are certain dealerships that don’t markup their vehicles. I have my name on a waiting list at one that doesn’t. If you are patient and don’t go into a dealership with new car fever, you can wait and find the right place that will make that deal for you.

Before my 3 kids became drivers themselves we had a Lincoln MKT. 3 rows, heated and cooled seats in front and back, televisions, etc

It was a great car.

I loved my Explorer when I had it.

Something tells me that you really want the space in a Tahoe but cannot afford it.

If that is the case, then get an Enclave. It’s bigger than mid size 3 row SUV’s.
