Movie quote but I've always thought it rang true.
quote:
Sometimes you're flush and sometimes you're bust, and when you're up, it's never as good as it seems, and when you're down, you never think you'll be up again, but life goes on. Remember that.

They don't pay me for what I do. They pay me for what I can do.

quote:
“Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly.” Often times, people allow perfectionism to get in the way of progress. When I was a construction estimator, perfect was never the goal. Fast and pretty good was the goal. This translates into a lot of different areas of life. Just because you don’t have the time to do the entire chore, or do it as well as it could possibly be done, it might be worth your while to at least half-arse it. Doing some of a chore is often much better than not starting it at all. By chipping away at one’s responsibilities a little at a time, it can add up to a lot of progress that otherwise would never have been made.
There’s much truth to this and the similar phrase “don’t let perfect be the enemy of good”. It took me over 45 years to realize the wisdom of this. I’ve learned to just start instead of waiting for the right time to start.

It’s not how much you make, it’s how much you keep.

When thinking about a choice or something you may have done/made in the past, the quote I was taught was "So what, Now what?

Planning is fun but worthless without the “doing.”

Garnering other peoples’ envy takes hard work. Garnering other peoples’ pity is free.

"Get up"
As dads we all say this to our children when they fall down. It's very useful to all walks of life. Life will inevitably knock you to your knees, it's your job to either stay there or get up and get back into the breach. As Jordan Peterson would say "It is better to confront the dragon in its lair as opposed to cowering in fear of what might be out there in your own." Because there is something out there that can devour you, and will do so gladly should you not get up and confront it yourself with your shield and you sword.
Life is full of suffering, and you compound that suffering by not getting up and confronting it. If you never get up, if you never confront an issue, it will inevitably consume you.
Another one I like from Jordan Peterson is "The goal of life should not be happiness. Happiness is a shallow boat in a rough ocean. There will be times, potentially years, where unhappiness will define you. Happiness is a very fleeting thing. Search instead for meaning and contentment."
