I guess the 3 times I stayed there the entrance was just make believe?

an entrance on the Iberville side of the Ritz building

Yep. And the valet on that side of the building services Iberville and Club level. The path to get there from the Ritz is completely confusing.

my wife and I prefer Windsor Court over anything else in New Orleans

This was my best experience at a N.O. hotel and I would think a lot of people would prefer the calmer area. The club level is very nice and the service was excellent.
The valet at the Roosevelt is a cluster fck at times and both the Roosevelt and the Ritz have the hood rats hanging around on Canal, which might be a problem for some folks.

Catman didn't mean to offend. There is a elevator in the back corner that will take you to the club level. You can also access from main lobby elevators. It may have been a while since you stayed, years ago you could check in to the club level on that floor. That is no more. Now you check in the main lobby and go through what can be a confusing path. I just never considered the one elevator to be a completely separate entrance, as its located in the back entrance of the Ritz.

Bourbon Orleans
Omni Royal
Bienville

if money isnt an issue the Ritz is fine, but i dont really consider it to be in the quarter. Kinda on the outskirts of the action. Might as well just stay at the Marriot or Westin

Roosevelt definitely isnt FQ.

Ritz is on the crappy part of Canal Street and not considered the French Quarter.

The closer you are to Rampart the closer you are to the 'hood.

I'd go with Bourbon Orleans, the Omni or Monteleone if I wanted to drink on Bourbon Street.

not sure how ownership works for a brand like that
He did the renovations and negotiated the penthouse ownership as part of the contract.

I don't care to stay in the FQ usually. I usually stay downtown. Closer to the restaurants I want to eat at, getting in/out of hotel, and getting to/from uptown.

Ok, so I'm now thinking about canceling Ritz. Narrowed down to Monteleone and Omni. I really just want to drink on Bourbon and go back to a nice room.

Just an FYI, (and I know there have been shootings on Bourbon Street) but there have been shootings and things going on at Canal and Rampart.

I think your best bet is to have a shorter walk back to your hotel, particularly if you're impaired in any way.

That's good to know RST. Any thoughts on Monteleone vs Omni vs bourbon Orleans in terms of safety and just class of hotel?

Monteleone has better room service breakfast. Room sizes and decor do vary. But having the carousel bar and a damn good restaurant make it my go-to hotel in the quarter.
