Best food item to have in a truly SHTF situation ?
Something long term, where all you have is what you have.
I'm thinking maybe peanut butter. High calories, fills you up pretty good, cheap, storage life is really good...several years if unopened.
And who doesn't like peanut butter ?
(Sorry folks that are allergic)
And, you can haul quite a bit in a backpack if you need to be mobile.
Canned tuna would be a close second.
Thoughts ?

Fishing pole, small garden and lots of ammo.
Stockpiling just will get you robbed.

Sweet potatoes.
High in calories, nutrients, and vitamins. You could actually survive long term on them. They store well over winter and you can plant them and grow "draws" from them and turn each sweet potato into 10 plants.
Tons of people grew them during the great depression for these very reasons.

Dumb narrative. If you store it properly and keep your mouth shut no one will ever now you have it. If you are armed and have ammo why are you worried about being robbed? Kill a few of them and they will quit messing with you.

They will grow in the worst soil too. In africa they just push the dirt in a pile.
