Seiko Core line-up has lots of options and many can be found for around $200 our even less. Of you want to spend most of that $500 then look at Hamilton Khakis or Jazz Masters. Get a solid Swiss mechanical watch for your money.

I would get a black Seiko Monster at that price point. It can be dressy yet everyday

At nomorerack they have these Lucien Piccards which retail for ~$700 going for $65

I'm sorry, but that is a fugly watch. There are 50 different Citizen watches that would fit what the OP would want, and I'd suggest those
