I've worn a lot of different brands and styles of dress socks over the last four or five years, including everything from cheap $5 per pair to $100 and beyond per pair.

For my money, Ralph Lauren Polo dress socks are about as good of a bang for the buck as you can get in terms of style + wearability (don't slide down your ankle) + price.

Cole Haan socks have been pretty good in my experience. Haven't gotten holes in them like most of the other brands I've purchased. I always get them at Stein Mart ($10 for a 3 pack).

Stick with dark, solid tones. Nothing makes me lose respect for a grown man more than seeing him dressed up with damn Mickey Mouse socks on. I wish that fad would die.

Don't let these millennial children influence you. You're spot on. Nobody's out sealing multi-million dollar deals in hot pink designer socks. Stay classic and present yourself like you belong to the business community.

He is 100% right.

And socks should ideally accent pants.

The President and CIO of my firm both wear "fun" socks and seal many multi-million dollar deals every year. The President is a millennial though, so I must be mistaken

Agree on the colored socks. Unless I am wearing a suit or very dressed up, I wear socks that don't show over the shoe. I really don't care what it looks like. Living in the deep south I like the extra layer of heat removed.

Bombas

The Bombas socks I have are too thick for warm months, but they are great for winter.

Bombas are fantastic but lacking on the Dress Socks. Plain, muted colors and very thick for summer weather.

No show socks are fantastic for summer however. And I enjoy the thick tube sock with sandals around the house when it gets a bit chilly later in the year.

They can think how they want but I will say I refused to hire a kid about a year ago because he showed up to the interview in a suit with some sort of cartoon sock on.

Smartwool dress socks are hands down the best sock to go with for all seasons.

Bresciani, Marcoliani, & Pantherella all offer a variety of over-the-calf socks that stay up all day. Variety of patterns from standard solid colors up to colorful argyles.

If you have to dress professional for work, don’t waste money on expensive socks.

If you have money burning a hole in your pocket for clothes, upgrade everything else first.
