Was taking a training class several years ago and the instructor had retired to Panama. He said of course there was some corruption and such, but he knew about it and could deal with it better than the idiots in our political system.

Funny how they don't factor in freedom, otherwise we would be number 1.

Winter average temperatures in Indiana are colder than the average Winter temperatures in Iceland. The Summers remain cool...it would actually be a pretty awesome place to live.

Hot spot 20 years ago. Way too overdeveloped now. Panama is the "new Costa Rica".

In five years Equador will be the new Panama.

I’ve been thinking long and hard lately about retiring to another country in the next 5-10 yrs.. however, none of the countries on this list would work for me, because they are mostly expensive, whereas my main objective for retiring abroad is to stretch my US dollars further... Places like Ecuador, Mexico, Thailand, Malaysia, Panama, parts of Costa Rica.

Ideally, I’d like to retire somewhere in the US that isn’t too hot or too cold, like Tennessee , so that i could travel the US by RV at my leisure, and then just visit other countries occasionally.. ... but if that meant working longer, then i think going abroad would win out for me.

Go ahead and retire to Iceland where the best winter averages are 32 degrees.

quote:

The southerly lowlands of the island average around 0 °C (32 °F) in winter, while the Highlands of Iceland tend to average around -10 °C (14 °F). The lowest temperatures in the northern part of the island range from around -25 to -30 °C (-13 to -22 °F).

LINK

If you’ll open the link you will see for nine months out of the year the average high in in the 40s or less. Even in midsummer the best you can hope for is mid 50s on average. And for nine months a year average lows will be close or below freezing.

How do they calculate this? Because high taxes are bad news for people living off pension/savings, and we have Medicare so it's not as if single payer is any advantage.
